2006 Buick LaCrosse Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right rear parking brake cable on 2006 Buick LaCrosse?
A: The right rear Parking Brake Cable replacement must begin with vehicle elevation and supporting of the vehicle before removing the tire and assembly. Use the Parking Brake Cable release tool (J37043) on the retaining tabs by the equalizer at the rear suspension support assembly. After this, disconnect the cable from the equalizer. First remove the rear brake caliper guide bolts and disconnect the caliper from its bracket while the loose Parking Brake Cable end passes through the wheel opening. Before securing, position the caliper to show its convex surface facing down while matching the lower guide pin hole in the caliper to the upper guide pin hole in the caliper bracket and insert the guide pin bolt from the lower caliper hole into the bracket hole for stable support. Insert a screwdriver through the caliper lever window to depress the single visible retainer tab by tilting the cable elbow toward the front of the automobile which allows you to extract the cable end from its caliper lever. Take out the Parking Brake Cable from the motor vehicle. The new cable installation begins with the proper vehicle placement followed by a correct insertion of the end fitting in the caliper lever with locks secured then directing the remaining cable end from the wheel opening toward the rear support structure. Put the brake caliper back into its right position after removing the caliper guide bolt then tighten the guide bolts until they reach 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs.). You should install the equalizer stud onto the equalizer nut within the equalizer assembly to eliminate cable slack at the same point. Place the rear wheel and tire on then lower the vehicle before adjusting the parking brake system.
