2007 Buick LaCrosse Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the left rear parking brake cable on 2007 Buick LaCrosse?
A: The procedure to replace a left rear Parking Brake Cable requires vehicle support with wheel elevation followed by tire removal before disconnecting the cable from the equalizer. The cable needs disconnection from the equalizer located on the rear suspension support assembly. The Parking Brake Cable release tool (J 37043) should be used to activate the retaining tabs found on the Parking Brake Cable located close to the equalizer. After removing the rear brake caliper guide bolts you should take off the caliper from its bracket by pulling out the loose end of the Parking Brake Cable through the wheel opening. Put the caliper in a position with its convex side down while matching the lower guide pin hole opening to the upper guide pin hole opening in the caliper bracket. Install the guide pin bolt through both holes to stabilize the caliper assembly. To slide the cable end out of the caliper lever you should use a screwdriver on the tabs through the lever windows while rotating the cable end until one visibility of the tab and tilt the cable elbow forward toward the vehicle front. Removal of the Parking Brake Cable from the vehicle needs to take place. To install the new Parking Brake Cable place it into the vehicle then insert the cable end fitting into the caliper lever while making sure the retaining tabs get into their correct positions. Push the cable end from the wheel opening to reach the rear support assembly. Position the brake caliper correctly before fastening the guide bolts to 34 n.m (25 lb ft). Day of assembly requires inserting the equalizer stud through the equalizer nut before taking up extra cable length at the equalizer assembly. Complete the installation by mounting the rear wheel with tire on and adjust the parking brake system after lowering the vehicle.
