  A: The first step before replacing the fuel pressure regulator involves reducing fuel pressure and clearing dirt from the retaining ring of the pressure regulator. Unplug the vacuum hose from the regulator before removing the snapping ring. A shop towel sitting beneath the fuel regulator catches drop fuel before the regulator can be unscrewed from the housing by lifting and twisting it. Proceed by taking out the small regulator O-ring and the filter screen as well as the large regulator O-ring and the back up regulator O-ring. The process requires covering the fuel pressure regulator housing to avoid contamination. The installation process should not employ compressed air applications to inspect or cleanse the fuel pressure regulator because damage may occur.
