2005 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the automatic transmission shift cable on 2005 Buick LeSabre?
A: The process of changing an Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable requires setting the park brake and wheel chock installation as the first step. After raising the retainer all the way free from the cable mechanism extract the transaxle range selector cable terminal away from the manual shift lever pin. Depress the locking tabs until the transaxle range selector cable detaches from the bracket before you can take off the left closeout/insulator panel. First remove the retaining clip attached to the cable then extract the range selector cable through both the column control lever as well as steering column bracket and finally through the cowl opening. Install the range selector cable by directing it through the engine compartment before passing it through the cowl to attach it to the steering column bracket and secure it with the retaining clip. The range selector cable needs to be connected to the column control lever while the left IP close-out panel must be reinstalled before placing the transaxle range selector cable into its bracket. The transaxle range selector cable terminal must be connected to the manual shift lever pin of the transaxle before installing the retainer to the range selector cable mechanism for cable adjustment.
