2005 Buick Rendezvous Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2005 Buick Rendezvous?
A: You must lock the Steering Column before beginning intermediate Steering Shaft replacement by disconnecting the Steering Column then the Steering Shaft coupling and intermediate shaft and lower Steering Shaft. You must prevent moving the front tires because improper alignment or damage to sir coil will occur after removing these components. First turn off the ignition with the wheel in a direct position followed by vehicle lift and support. To access the intermediate shaft lower bolt you must remove the left front tire and wheel then push the intermediate shaft lower seal up into the intermediate shaft upper seal. Push up the intermediate Steering Shaft by removing the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt then separate it from the steering gear. Lower the car and take out the left closeout panel. Access the intermediate Steering Shaft upper bolt by pulling down the intermediate Steering Shaft seal from the Steering Column. Connect the intermediate shaft to Steering Column pinch bolt then disconnect the intermediate shaft from the Steering Column. Guide the intermediate Steering Shaft out of the vehicle's interior space. Before connection to the Steering Column begin by routing the intermediate Steering Shaft through the intermediate Steering Shaft seal. Fasten the intermediate Steering Shaft upper pinch bolt to a torque of 48 nm (35 ft lbs). Install the left closeout panel after reconnecting the intermediate Steering Shaft to the Steering Column. Reposition the vehicle to a high elevation and fuse the intermediate shaft with the steering gear while tightening the intermediate Steering Shaft lower pinch bolt to 48 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). The intermediate Steering Shaft seal should be aligned properly with the steering gear before installing the left front tire, wheel, and lowering the vehicle.
