2005 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the thermostat (LP1, LY7) on 2005 Cadillac CTS?
A: To replace the Thermostat (LP1, LY7) first start to partially drain off the cooling system. It is very important not to divide the upper and bottom intake manifolds; rather, extract the upper Intake Manifold as well as the lower Intake Manifold. Remove the surge tank hose from the Thermostat, remove coolant pipe/Thermostat housing bolt and the coolant pipe upper bolt. Then unscrew the coolant inlet pipe from the Thermostat and remove the Thermostat bolts. Remove the Thermostat and throw away the Thermostat seal. For installation: install the new Thermostat with a new Thermostat seal and install the Thermostat bolts while tightening the bolts by applying the 10nm (89 inch lbs). Replace the old pipe with a newpipe and seal, then attach the surge tank hose to the Thermostat. Lastly, install again the upper Intake Manifold with the lower Intake Manifold and fill up the cooling system.
