2005 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2005 Cadillac DeVille?
A: To remove the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor, turn OFF the ignition and drain the coolant well below the level of the ECT, then proceed with the removal. Disconnect the ECT sensor harness connection and remove the ECT sensor. Before installing the new ECT sensor, use the sealer GM P/N 1050805 or its equivalent on the threads of the sensor and install the ECT sensor and torque to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Connect the ECT sensor harness connector and fill the coolant system. Care must be taken when working on the application of the coolant sensor, as damage will influence the operation of the fuel control system and remember the replacement parts must always be the applicable part number for the application. Components that need thread locking compound, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, or sealants are noted in the service procedure and some may come with these coatings predominate; you should not apply such coatings unless it is specified since it might have an effect on the final torque and component function.
