Q: How to replace the front Door Latch Assembly on 2005 Cadillac SRX?
A: The first step to replace the front door latch involves raising the window to maximum height before removing the door trim panel together with the water deflector. Unconnect the door latch lock cylinder rod when present followed by opening the clip to detach the outside Door Handle rod from the latch. You should take out the lock knob rod from the rod guide as well as the inside handle rod from the rod guide. You must first remove the door latch screws before taking out the door latch from the door but keeping the inside Door Handle rod and lock rod connected to it. A small flat-bladed tool enables the removal of the electrical connector lock when disconnecting the electrical connector. Proceed by taking out the handle rod and lock rod from the door latch. The first step during installation involves connecting the inside Door Handle rod along with the lock rod to the door latch before finishing with attachment of the electrical connector. After inserting the door latch into the door you must join the lock cylinder rod to the door latch. Secure the door latch screws by torquing them to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Put the outside Door Handle rod into the latch clip while pressing the clip to close it. Put the lock knob rod into the rod guide slot followed by the inside handle rod installation into the rod guide slot. The proper operation of door handles and lock cylinder along with door latch needs to be checked before reattaching the water deflector and door trim panel.
