- Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier?A: Commence replacement of the negative Battery Cable by disconnecting its negative wire. First cut the tape which holds the two cables together then remove the air intake duct and resonator. Finally, locate the cable retainer on the battery tray and transmission electrical plug. At the engine's rear end remove the wire harness retainer nut then place the wire retainer to a safe location. The replacement process begins with removing the bolt holding the cable to the battery tray along with the negative cable ground stud from the engine block. The negative Battery Cable should then be detached before installation. Insert the cable into its vehicle placement before driving the ground stud through the negative cable to seat into the engine block at 25 n.m torque (18 lb ft). After positioning the engine wire harness retainer onto the ground stud you must install it and securely tighten the wire harness retainer nut to 18 n.m (13 lb ft). Attaching the bolt to secure the negative Battery Cable to the battery tray after taping the cables together at the battery tray and transmission electrical plug. Then install the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct before connecting the negative Battery Cable.
