- Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?A: To replace the negative Battery Cable, you should disconnect negative Battery Cable and remove the air intake duct and resanator. In the retainer, at the battery tray, and around the transmission electrical plug, cut the tape binding the two cables. Remove the wire harness retainer nut located at the rear of the motor and set the wire retainer to the side of the motor. Then, take off the bolt holding the cable to the battery tray and the negative Battery Cable ground stud to the engine block, then remove the negative Battery Cable. For installation position the new cable on the car and install the ground stud through the negative cable into engine block and tighten it to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Mount the engine wire harness retainer onto the ground stud and bolt-in wire harness retainer nut with a tightness value of 18 n.m (13 lb ft). Mount the bolt to secure negative Battery Cable to the battery tray, cover the cables with the tape at the battery tray and at the transmission electrical plug, connect the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct, and reconnect the negative Battery Cable.
