- Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier?A: The battery replacement requires an initial step of removing both the outlet duct and resonator before disconnecting the negative cable followed by the positive cable at the battery. Open the fuse/relay center to reach the power lead bolt which should then be unfastened for removal. You should cut the tape holding the two cables in place at the battery tray retainer along with the transmission electrical plug. After removing the positive battery cable from the starter solenoid nut you should take the cable out of the vehicle. When installing the new cable position it exactly where the original one was before fastening it to the starter solenoid nut that requires torque to 17 N.m (13 lb ft). Tape the cables together at the transmission electrical connector and at the battery tray. Within the installation process first reinstall the power lead bolt to the fuse/relay center before reinstalling the fuse/relay center itself. Connect the positive battery cable end to the battery and tighten the terminal bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Then follow up with negative battery cable reconnection and installing outlet duct and resonator.
