2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Brake Light Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Brake Light Switch on 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: To replace the stop lamp switch start by removing the lower i/p trim insulator screw and pulling out the insulator from the Brake Pedal bracket. Detach power wires from the stop lamp switch and turn the switch counterclockwise to the travel stop position. Then pull it directly back to take it out from the Brake Pedal bracket. Put the switch in its retainer with care to keep the power booster rod and Brake Pedal attached and do not push the Brake Pedal. Set the stop lamp switch into position but stop at 2-3 lb pressure which prevents Brake Pedal bracket flexing. Use a feeler gauge to test stop lamp switch plunger distance before reaching its full rotation at the travel stop point. Make certain the minimum plunger extension measures 0.0mm to 2.0mm (0.0in to 0.78in) distance from switch base to Brake Pedal . Replace the lower i/p trim insulator over the Brake Pedal bracket and tighten its screw to 2.3 n.m (20 lb in), while connecting the electrical stop lamp switch plugs.
