2004 Chevrolet Cavalier Brake Light Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Brake Light Switch on 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: First remove the lower i/p trim insulator screw and detach the lower i/p trim insulator to replace the stop lamp switch. Detach the wiring from the stop lamp switch and turn the switch counterclockwise until it reaches its limit position. Next pull the switch backward to remove it completely from the Brake Pedal bracket. Press the stop lamp switch into its retainer while keeping the Brake Pedal connected to the power booster rod and unaffected during installation; do not apply pressure to the Brake Pedal. Push the stop lamp switch into the retainer until its plunger presses firmly with 2-3 pounds to prevent Brake Pedal bracket bending which moves the switch to an incorrect position. Turn the stop lamp switch clockwise until you reach the stop point and verify that the minimum plunger extension lays between 0.0 mm and 2.0 mm with a feeler gauge installed between the stop lamp switch barrel and the Brake Pedal . Replace the lower i/p trim insulator to the Brake Pedal bracket by its dedicated screw and push it tightly with a torque of 2.3 n.m (20 lb in).
