2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front parking brake cable on 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: One must begin by taking out the floor console then freeing the tension from the park brake cable system to replace the front park brake cable. With the j 37043 tool, the cable conduit end fitting will be released from the lever assembly after you detach the front park brake cable end from the lever reel assembly. Raise the vehicle while supporting it and then free the front cable end from its right cable connector before disconnecting the front cable conduit end fitting from the cable equalizer. You must first release the front cable from across the left axle retention loop then take out the front cable guide lock bolt before releasing the front cable gap from underneath the vehicle body. Access to the cable becomes available after removing the rear seat cushion combined with the left side carpet retainer followed by moving the carpet out of the way. The Floor Pan retaining clip must be removed first before taking out the front cable from the vehicle. Install the front park brake cable by entering it into the vehicle through the pass-thru opening that leads toward the vehicle underbody. Fit the appropriate grommet to the vehicle Floor Pan and secure it tightly while connecting the cable to the Floor Pan retaining clip. Rear seat cushion and left-sided carpet retainer and carpet must go back before lifting the vehicle during this step. Secure the front cable inside the retaining strap running along the left side of the axle while installing its guide retaining bolt with 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) torque. Secure the front cable conduit end fitting to the cable equalizer then fasten the front cable end to the right cable connector before lowering down the vehicle. The conduit end fitting for the front park brake cable must be securely fastened to the lever assembly before connecting the cable end to the lever reel assembly and re-entering the tension into the park brake cable system followed by reinstallation of the floor console.
