2005 Chevrolet Cobalt Clutch Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Clutch Master Cylinder (M86) on 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Start the Clutch Master Cylinder (M86) replacement by taking out the clutch pedal retainer from the front of the assembly followed by lifting the pedal to detach the master cylinder pushrod from the pedal. Set a shop towel beneath the Clutch Master Cylinder before extracting the ubec. After disconnecting the Clutch Hose and clutch line from the Clutch Master Cylinder you need to cap its reservoir and hydraulic lines to avoid both fluid loss and possible contamination. After rotating the Clutch Master Cylinder one 1/4 turn to the right you can remove it from the vehicle. As you install the Clutch Master Cylinder make sure its pushrod points towards the clutch pedal before rotating the cylinder counterclockwise by 1/4 turn. You will first need to uncap reservoir and hydraulic lines before attaching the clutch line through the Clutch Hose to the Clutch Master Cylinder and finally installing the ubec. After attaching the Clutch Master Cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal you must install the clutch pedal retainer before performing a clutch hydraulic system bleed.
