How to replace the floor shift cable on 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt?

Start by supporting the raised vehicle when replacing floor shift control cables. First disconnect the Shift Cable retaining nut (NUT) located by the Exhaust Heat Shield then detach the Shift Cable from the transmission cable bracket and remove it from the park/neutral position switch. Begin by lowering the vehicle while performing console removal to free up the Shift Cable from the shift control assembly. First disconnect the cable from the car's driver floor opening by pulling the cable through the opening after pulling the grommet from the Floor Pan and setting aside the driver's side front carpet. Drive the new cable into the driver's floor opening by installing the grommet level with the floor entry. To complete installation you should first install the driver's side front carpet and then reattach the Shift Cable to the shift control assembly before reinstalling the console. After raising the vehicle repeat the cable connections starting with the park/neutral position switch followed by the transmission cable bracket. Install the Shift Cable retaining nut (NUT) next to the Exhaust Heat Shield and tighten it to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Lower the vehicle.
