    Q:
How to replace the floor shift cable on Chevrolet Cobalt? Posted by Customer
    A:
Vehicle elevation and support become essential steps before starting to replace the floor shift control cable. The Shift Cable retaining nut close to the Exhaust Heat Shield must be removed and the Shift Cable needs detachment from the transmission cable bracket. First disconnect the Shift Cable from both the park/neutral position switch and the lower area of the vehicle. Then remove the console and separate the Shift Cable from its connection at the shift control assembly. Safely position aside the front carpet from the driver side while removing the grommet from the Floor Pan. Push the cable steadily through the driver floor opening to extract it from inside the vehicle. The new cable needs to pass through the driver floor opening before placing the grommet level with the floor opening. Put the front driver carpet in position while you link the Shift Cable to the shift control assembly. After installing the console attach the Shift Cable to two components. First mount it onto the park/neutral position switch then direct it toward the transmission cable bracket. Lift the vehicle then install the retaining Shift Cable nut which should be located next to the Exhaust Heat Shield and tightened to 10 nm (89 lb in). Verify shift control cable operation by lowering the vehicle while performing a check of cable adjustment across all gear ranges. Shift control cable adjustment becomes necessary when the vehicle requires it.

    Q:
How to replace the floor shift cable on Chevrolet HHR? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement of the floor shift control cable begins by raising and supporting the vehicle. You must remove the Shift Cable retaining nut that is found next to the Exhaust Heat Shield before detaching the Shift Cable from the transmission cable bracket. Members must first lower the vehicle then remove the Shift Cable from the park/neutral position switch assembly. Proceed by taking out the console while disconnecting the Shift Cable from both the shift control assembly. Take the driver side front carpet to the side while removing the grommet from the Floor Pan. Wedge the cable end into the driver floor opening to free it from the vehicle compartment. The new cable needs to be inserted into the driver floor opening while the grommet needs installation at the floor opening's surface. Install the driver side front carpet afterward you should connect the Shift Cable to the shift control assembly. The first step is to mount the console before connecting the Shift Cable to both the park/neutral position switch and transmission cable bracket. Maintain a raised vehicle position to install the Shift Cable retaining nut near the Exhaust Heat Shield while tightening it to reach 10 n.m (89 lb in). Examine shift control cable operation by lowering the vehicle as you check its adjustment through every gear setting. Adjust the shift control cable when needed.
