2007 Chevrolet HHR Shift Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the shift cable on 2007 Chevrolet HHR?
A: The repair process begins with setting the parking brake and placing the transmission to the n position. First disconnect the console before lifting the cable retainers. Before replacement disconnect the ends of the cable from its positions at both the shift control assembly and transmission shift levers while carefully keeping track of their original placements. Uninstall the Shift Cable from the transmission cable bracket followed by vehicle elevating and ceiling installation. Remove the attachment nut from the Shift Cable on the underbody and let the vehicle lower to the ground. Begin by taking out the left instrument panel closeout panel followed by relocating the driver-side front carpet to the side. Lift the Floor Pan grommet apart then draw the cable out from the driver's side floor hole to remove it from the vehicle body. Put the cable assembly into the driver floor space then position the grommet to rest evenly against the opening. You should reinstall the carpet on the driver's side front and also the left instrument panel closeout panel. Use the correct tool to tighten the Shift Cable attachment nut to 10 n.m (89 lb in) onto the underbody. The first step is lowering the vehicle while performing Shift Cable installation to the transmission cable bracket. Install the cable ends corresponding to the transmission shift levers and shift control assembly according to the initial disassembly configuration. The shifter moves slightly to position the lock clip center point after pushing the shifter neutral lock clip when the transmission needs to be in neutral. Before putting back the console you must first push down on the locking tabs and then pull the shifter neutral lock clip back to its original position.
