2010 Chevrolet Cobalt Shift Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the floor shift cable on 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Start by lifting and supporting the automobile before beginning the task of floor shift control cable replacement. Use a wrench to remove the Shift Cable retaining nut situated by the Exhaust Heat Shield before pulling out the Shift Cable from the transmission cable bracket. The-installation-process-starts-by-making-the-vehicle-dropping-to-the-low-position-and-then-unclipping-the-cable-from-the-park/neutral position switch. The console removal step should start by disconnecting the Shift Cable from the shift control assembly. Position the driver side front carpet aside and disassemble the grommet from the Floor Pan after which you will pull the cable through the driver floor opening to finish removing it. To accomplish the installation process guide the new cable through the driver floor opening before mounting the grommet level with the floor hole. First reinstall both the driver side front carpet and shift the cable to the shift control assembly before putting the console in place. Install the Shift Cable linkage by connecting it first to the park/neutral position switch and then to the transmission cable bracket. Weld the vehicle before putting in the Shift Cable retaining nut which should be placed around the Exhaust Heat Shield then tighten it to 10 nm (89 lb in). Inspection of shift control cable movement should be performed when the vehicle is at ground level to verify suitable cable functioning throughout all gear ranges.
