2005 Chevrolet Colorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Shift Cable for the Automatic Transmission Range Selector on 2005 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: The fixation of a new Shift Cable should begin by placing the vehicle in park position then elevating and securing the vehicle. Doing not pull on the boot section of the cable should be avoided. You must disconnect the Shift Cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud by using a flat bladed tool to split the Shift Cable end from the range selector lever. Pull the retainer from the Shift Cable then use the fingers to depress its locking tabs which will release the bracket. Cable grommet should now be pushed through the floor panel while simultaneously lowering the vehicle. You need to remove the left hinge pillar panel trim followed by raising the driver-side carpet so you can access the Shift Cable. A flat bladed tool should be used to disconnect the Shift Cable retainer from the lower dash panel and once again disconnect the Shift Cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud by prying the Shift Cable end away from the lever. Begin by removing the retainer from the Shift Cable and push the locking tabs inward to detach from the steering column bracket before taking out the Shift Cable from the vehicle. Sitting the cable grommet under the floor panel first allows you to guide the Shift Cable below the dash mat until you can connect the Shift Cable retainer to the lower dash panel. Rout the Shift Cable through the steering column bracket while also fitting the retainer around the Shift Cable. Reposition the driver's side carpet after securing the Shift Cable end onto the ball stud of the lever with a check below the pedal to confirm complete motion. The vehicle needs to be raised for installation of the left hinge pillar trim panel followed by Shift Cable bracket connection and Shift Cable retainer attachment. To implement a new cable system the operator should first discard the primary lockout pin then adjust the Shift Cable before lowering the vehicle.
