• Q: How to replace the LH Differential Cover and seal on 2005 Chevrolet Corvette?

  A: First to replace the differential carrier cover and seal on the left side; raise and support vehicle, remove lh rear tire and wheel assembly, remove lh wheel drive shaft and remove the lh Muffler assembly. Drain the differential fluid, then remove bolts on the damper/tuned absorber and the assembly itself. Loosen the left-hand nut retaining the transmission to the lh transmission mounting stud and install a second nut on the stud before removing it from the Differential Cover (left). Take off all dirt, debris, and blockages found around the Differential Cover (left) and pop off the two bolts holding it then remove the Differential Cover (left) then throw out the o-ring seal from the differential side cover. For installation, you need to clean the o-ring sealing surface on Differential Cover (left) and differential housing, after which it is necessary to install a new o-ring seal to the Differential Cover (left) and connect it to the differentia. Install the Differential Cover (left) retaining bolts and tighten to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Wearing the hand guards, install the transmission mounting stud to the Differential Cover (left) and tighten it to 42 nm (31 ft. Lbs.) using the two nuts on the stud. Followed the process of removing the second nut from the transmission mounting stud and tightening the nut that retains the transmission to the transmission lh mounting stud to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the damper/tuned absorber to the Differential Cover (left) and lock it with bolts, as tight as 25nm (18ft..lb.). Fill the differential with the right fluids to the required level and then reinstall the lh Muffler assembly, the lh wheel drive shaft, and the lh rear tire and the wheel assembly and then lower the vehicle.
