    How to replace the LH Differential Cover and seal on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
    To replace the Differential carrier cover and seal on the left side; one should begin by lifting and supporting the vehicle. Remove the lh rear tire and wheel assembly, then the lh wheel drive shaft, and the lh Muffler assembly. Drain the Differential fluid from the Differential and then mount the Differential and remove the Differential mount from the left side. At this point, use a degreaser to clean the area around the Differential cover of any dirt/debris and then unscrew the two bolts holding the Differential cover onto the body and knock out the dowel pin to release the cover. Make sure you don't lose the magnet located at the bottom of the Differential case, and remove and dispose of the o-ring seal and the axle seal from the Differential side cover. Clean the o-ring sealing surface of the Differential cover and the Differential housing, and insert the new o-ring seal to the Differential cover. Replace the Differential cover, insert the dowel pin, and tighten the cover with retaining bolts to 28 n.m (20 lb ft). Tigten bolt retaining the left Differential mount of 50 n. M, (37 lb ft). Install the axle seal to the Differential cover using the j 46405 output shaft seal installer. Replace the Differential with the right fluids to the appropriate level, and reinstalling the lh Muffler assembly, the lh wheel drive shaft, and the lh rear tire and wheel assembly then dropping the vehicle.
