- Q: How to replace the LH Differential Cover and seal on 2009 Cadillac XLR?A: To replace the Differential carrier cover and seal on the left: first, lift and support the vehicle and thereafter remove your lh rear tire and wheel assembly. Next comes the removal of the lh wheel drive shaft as well as the lh Muffler assembly. Drain of the Differential and support before removing the left Differential mount. Clean any dirt around the Differential cover and take out the two bolts keeping the Differential cover. Then push out the dowel pin in order to separate the cover. Make sure that the magnet at the bottom of the Differential case is not thrown away, and after that, remove and throw away the o-ring seal and the axle seal from the Differential side cover. Clean the o-ring sealing surface of the Differential cover and housing and install a new o-ring seal to the Differential cover. Re-install the Differential cover, the dowel pin, and the retaining bolts, and tighten up to 28 nm (20 lb ft), then tighten the left Differential mount bolt up to 50 nm (37 lb ft). To install the axle seal to the Differential cover, fill the Differential with proper fluids up to the correct level then reinstall lh Muffler assembly, lh wheel drive shaft, and lh rear tire and wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle with j 46405.
