  A: First drain the cooling system and follow with steps to remove the upper Intake Manifold and heater inlet pipe and isolate the radiator inlet hose from the Thermostat Housing. First detaching the Fuel Rail assembly and lower Intake Manifold bolts enables you to remove the lower Intake Manifold from the engine compartment. When installing a new lower Intake Manifold you must first remove the Thermostat and housing along with the rocker arms, push rods, and lower Intake Manifold gaskets. Before installing manifold gaskets all mating surfaces should be cleaned with gm p/n 12346139 (Canadian P/N 10953463) or equivalent products and rtv seal should not be applied to the engine block. Place the lower Intake Manifold gaskets below the rocker arms then install push rods and lower Intake Manifold seals. Place the lower Intake Manifold onto the engine while applying a small rtv sealer drop from gm p/n 12346141 (Canadian P/N 10953433). The best results from gasket performance need either new fasteners with thread-locking patches or thread-locking chemicals added when the fasteners are reused. Install gm p/n 1234382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) equivalent bolts or equivalent on all lower Intake Manifold bolts before cleaning them from foreign materials. Torque all center bolts fully before installing the diagonal bolts for uniform torque distribution. The lower Intake Manifold bolts in locations and require torquing to specification with a crows foot type tool. The tightening sequence requires initial 13 nm (115 lb in) torque on first pass then moving to 20 nm (15 lb ft) on bolts (1, 2, 3, 4) in final pass while applying 25 nm (18 lb ft) torque to bolts (5, 6, 7, 8). The maintenance process ends by installing the Fuel Rail assembly followed by connecting the radiator inlet hose to the Thermostat Housing and heater inlet pipe installation before upper Intake Manifold reinstallation and cooling system filling.
