Q: How to replace the radiator (LX9) on 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Replace the Radiator (LX 9) by draining the coolant and removing the left and right head lamps. Loop rope around the upper two tabs of the condenser and bind it onto the upper tie bar. Synthesize: remove upper Radiator support bracket bolts and upper Radiator support brackets. Replace the position of the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the Radiator using hose clamp pliers (J 38185) remove surge tank outlet hose, then the Radiator inlet hose using the same device. On one hand, lift the vehicle and unbolt the lower Radiator air deflector retainers and remove the lower Radiator air deflector. Next, lift out the right front fender liner, left and right Radiator air deflectors and their retainers, and move the Radiator outlet hose clamp at the Radiator using the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) before removing the Radiator outlet hose. To install a new transmission oil cooler pipes, place a drain pan underneath of these pipes and then remove the transmission oil cooler pipe attachment nut from the transmission, and subsequently remove the pipes. Unbolt the lower Radiator support bracket bolts as well as the lower Radiator support brackets, and the Radiator lower mounts. Remove the condenser mounting bolts and nuts, and then put upward pressure on the Radiator and downward on the condenser to unsnap the mounting tabs. On the subject, remove the Radiator air side seals and Radiator, cooling Fan Shroud, and transmission oil cooler pipe assembly. Pull up on the Fan Shroud tabs of the Radiator clips to pull off the cooling fan and shroud assembly. During the installation process, fit the cooling fan and shroud close to the Radiator, snap it into clips. Install the transmission oil cooler pipes to the Radiator, the Radiator, cooling fan, shroud, and the transmission oil cooler pipe assembly. Install the Radiator air side seals on the tabs bellow condenser mounting, playing special attention to the bolts for mounting of condenser as they should be long enough to avoid possible harm. Adjust the bolt so that it tightens to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.) and slide the condenser mounting tabs into the Radiator clips, and install the condenser mounting nuts and tighten them. Bend the Radiator air side seals and position them behind the intake air splash shields. Replace the pair of the thermostat lower mounts, also install the lower Radiator support brackets and their bolts, adding a 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.) torque to them. Install the transmission oil cooler pipes to the transmission & attach the nut on the transmission which should be a firm nut of 7 nm (62-inch lbs.). Replace the Radiator outlet hose and reset the outlet hose clamp with hose clamp pliers (J 38185). Mount the left and right Radiator air deflectors together with their retainers and then the right front fender liner, lower Radiator air deflector, and its retainers. Lower the vehicle and install Radiator inlet hose, reposition inlet hose clamp using the hose clamp plier (J 38185). Install the surge tank outlet hose and change the position of this hose clamp with the same tool. Take off the rope attached to the condenser and the upper tie bar and put the upper Radiator supports including the bolts back together, and bolt them to 10 nm (7 ft. Lbs.). Finally, reinstall the left and right headlamps, refill the coolant, and check the level of the transmission fluid.
