2005 Chevrolet Malibu Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Service and Repair the Steering Knuckle on 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The replacement of a Steering Knuckle begins with vehicle lifting and proper stabilization. First, remove the Wheel Bearing followed by the outer tie rod to knuckle nut. The universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) functions to disconnect the tie rod from the Steering Knuckle. Start by uninstalling the bolts of both the lower Control Arm and the strut to Steering Knuckle assembly before removing the Steering Knuckle block from the car. During installation process install the Steering Knuckle on the strut assembly and the optional abs harness bracket while tightening all bolts and nuts to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). First guide the axle through the Steering Knuckle and install both the lower Control Arm and outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle before tightening the nut to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Finish by turning the nut an additional 180 degrees and verifying the torque requirement at 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Install the Wheel Bearing and brake rotor and brake caliper along with the front wheels onto the vehicle before lowering it for a road test to check alignment and resolve any lead or pull symptoms.
