2005 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace Coil Springs on 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The coil spring replacement requires raising and supporting the vehicle before removing the rear wheel and tire. The otc 204-167 compressor works with otc 204-167-01 adapter shoes or equivalent spring compressor to compress the coil spring. A suitable jack stand should support the lower Control Arm before you remove the lower Control Arm to knuckle bolt and nut. The proper tools should be used for supporting the lower Control Arm since the coil spring operates at dangerous pressure levels that could launch it toward unknown directions before full compression. Secure the lower Control Arm onto a jack stand after lowering it with its attached coil spring and remove the coil spring. Check coil spring insulators for damage before performing a replacement. Install the spring onto the lower Control Arm then use the jack stand to lift the lower Control Arm into its proper placement. Secure the lower Control Arm to the knuckle bolt with the nut tightened to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.) followed by an additional 60-degree torque. Start by removing the otc 204-167 spring compressor or equivalent then remove the jack stand before installing the tire and wheel then finish by lowering the vehicle.
