2006 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace Coil Springs on 2006 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Start by supporting the vehicle while it is raised. Remove the tire and wheel from the rear of the vehicle. To work with Coil Springs use an otc 204-167 compressor pair with otc 204-167-01 adapter shoes or a comparable spring compressor system. Place a suitable jack stand beneath the lower Control Arm to obtain support before removing the lower Control Arm to knuckle bolt, nut, and inboard fastener. The proper tools should be used for lower Control Arm support when working with high-pressure Coil Springs because premature separation could launch the spring as a dangerous projectile. First lower the lower Control Arm with its coil spring secured to it using a jack stand. Then detach the coil spring from the lower Control Arm. Check the coil spring insulators for signs of damage before deciding to replace them. When installing the spring position it on the lower Control Arm before using a jack stand to raise the lower Control Arm into position. Fasten the lower Control Arm to its knuckle bolt along with a nut and inboard fastener while tapering the bolt and nut to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.) torque with an extra 60-degree twist. Follow these instructions: remove the otc 204-167 compressor or equivalent then remove the jack stand to install the tire and wheel before lowering the vehicle.
