2005 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the transmission pan on 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Select a drain pan which will collect oil and set it under the transaxle Oil Pan. Support the vehicle properly while using a hoist to lift it up before beginning the Oil Pan replacement procedure. You should first unscrew the Oil Pan bolts located in front and around the sides but only turn the bolts holding the rear section by 4 turns. Carefully separate the Oil Pan while maintaining distance from transaxle case and sealing surfaces before gently tapping it with a rubber mallet or performing delicate prying actions for draining oil. The technician must first remove all remaining bolts from the Oil Pan alongside the gasket material while cleaning solvent and air drying all surfaces of the transaxle case and Oil Pan properly. Insert the new Oil Pan gasket along with the Oil Pan. Begin torquing the bolts by hand before ending at 12 nm (9 ft. Lbs. Torque). Follow the procedure for bottom pan removal by filling the transaxle with dexron (R) iii p/n 21019223 transaxle fluid or equivalent to a specified level which amounts to 6.5 l (6.9 qt.). When completing the overhaul replace the pan with fluid to 9 l (9.5 qt.). The dry capacity requires 12.2 l (12.9 qt.) or equivalent fluid. After starting the engine inspect fluid level at each point that leaks are checked.
