Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: To remove the lower Intake Manifold, need to disconnect the negative Battery Cable, take off the upper Intake Manifold, left, right valve Rocker Arm covers, and pull the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector. Then, shut out and extract the Fuel Injector and manifold complete pressure (MAP) sensor connecting cables, as well as the fuel pipe link bolt and link, and this is the Fuel Injector rail. Remove Power Steering Pump, remove heater inlet pipe and the heater hose, radiator inlet hose, and the Thermostat bypass hose. Take out all the bolts of the lower Intake Manifold and lower Intake Manifold itself as well as valve rocker arms, push rods, and lower Intake Manifold gaskets and seals. Clean up mating surfaces of gasekes and remove all rtv sealant from the lower Intake Manifold and engine block. Take the ect sensor, water outlet bolts, water outlet, and Thermostat off. For installation, begin by installing the Thermostat and the water outlet, tightening the bolts of the water outlet onto 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Install the ect sensor and perform all gasket-mating surfaces should be wiped clean of oil and foreign material using gm p/n 12346139 (Cdn. P/N 10953463) or equivalent. Install the lower Intake Manifold gaskets and apply a small rtv sealer, gm p/n 12346141 (Canadian P/N 10953433; or equal), to Intake Manifold blocking joint corners and wipe with a bead of rtv sealer. Mount the valve rocker arms and pushrods while all of the lower Intake Manifold bolts are cleaned and reused when they are not the same number other than if new bolts are not available, gm p. N. 12345382 (Canadian P. N. 10953489) or equivalent. Torque the center bolts in order to have proper sealability, and use crows foot type tool for the bolts in the locations 6 and 7. Install the lower Intake Manifold and the bolts and tighten them step-by-step to specified torques. Reinstall the Thermostat bypass hose, radiator inlet hose and tighten the heater inlet nut to the extent of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the heater inlet pipe. Reusable reattach Power Steering Pump and do not apply pressure to the fuel pressure regulator valve while mounting the Fuel Injector rail assembly, and new Fuel Injector O-Ring seals, gm p/n 12345616 (Canadian P/N 993182) are to be used or equivalent. Install the injector nozzles into the lower Intake Manifold injector bores, press the injector rails until fully seated and tighten the injector rail bolts to 10 nm 89 inch lbs. Reactivate the Fuel Injector and MAP Sensor wire harness, the ect sensor electrical connector, and replace the valve Rocker Arm covers and the upper Intake Manifold. Finally, connect the negative Battery Cable back and look for leaks.
