  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2005 Chevrolet Uplander?
    A: In order to replace the Oil Pan, first remove the negative cable from the battery and then support the vehicle with a jack. Drain the crankcase, then take off the right front tire and wheel, and right front splash shield. Remove the Wheel Speed Sensor harness on the right suspension support, remove the right front Ball Joint, bolt, and nut, and remove the Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle. Then remove the lower closeout panel, remove the air conditioning (A/C) compressor bolts and set the compressor off to the side. Unplug the radiator support under the engine from the heater core end, the plug is beneath the hood at the passenger side. Unbolt the Starter, then disconnect the oil level sensor. Take the retainers removing the Brake Line to the frame and support the engine using tall jackstand with a block of wood. Detach right side Engine Mount nuts and bolts, and left cradle bolts, remove cradle bolts from the right front and rear. Take out the Oil Pan side bolts and the Oil Pan bolts and remove the Oil Pan and gasket. Clean Oil Pan flanges, Oil Pan rail, front cover, rear main bearing cap, and threaded holes. For installation, install a new gasket and a new rear main bearing cap, if installed, apply sealant on the Oil Pan Gasket tabs using gm p/n 1052080 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent. Mount the Oil Pan and torque Oil Pan to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and oil side pan to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Mount the Starter, the flywheel inspection cover and the A/C Compressor to the engine. Mount the frame bolts on the right side, engine mount bolts and nuts, as well as right side Ball Joint to the Steering Knuckle. Plug the right front antilock brake system (ABS) wheel speed sensor harness back in place, and put the retainers for the Brake Line and the braces that hold the engine to the transmission back into place. Reattach the right front splash shield, right front tire and wheel assembly, and lower the vehicle. Refill engine oil through the crankcase and restore the negative Battery Cable.
