• Q: How to clean the throttle body properly on 2005 GMC Safari?

  A: When cleaning the Throttle Body, first disconnect the air cleaner outlet duct and check the Throttle Body bore and throttle valve plate for deposits, making sure that the throttle valve is opened for complete check. Do not use immersion cleaners or harsh cleaning agents on assemblies that contain the throttle position (TP) sensor, idle air control (IAC) valve, or sealed throttle shaft bearings because they will damage electric components, seals, or orings and solvents could actually degrade grease on non-serviceable throttle shaft bearings. Use no wire brushes or scrapers because they can damage your Throttle Body components and cleaners with methyl ethyl ketone which can be slid. Clean the Throttle Body bore and throttle valve plate using a clean shop towel and g.m. Top engine cleaner (P/N 1052626), or an equal product. If deposits are too many, dismantle the Throttle Body and hold it to be thoroughly subjected to cleaning by means of a parts cleaning brush, which should not be soaked in any solvent. Once clean, reassemble and install the Throttle Body, and then reinstall the air cleaner outlet duct.
