• Q: How to clean the throttle body properly on 2004 GMC Safari?

  A: To clean the Throttle Body, pull the air cleaner outlet duct and inspect the Throttle Body bore and throttle valve plate for deposits, the throttle valve must be turned open for a thorough inspection. Do not use immersion cleaners or harsh solvents on assemblies with throttle position (TP), idle air control (IAC), or sealed throttle shaft bearings as they may ruin electric parts, seals, or o-ring, solvents can also compromise the grease of non-serviceable throttle shaft bearings. Do not use wire brushes as well as scrapers to avoid damaging the components of the Throttle Body and do not use cleaners that contain methyl ethyl ketone. Remove Throttle Body bore and throttle valve plate and thoroughly clean with a clean shop towel and gm top engine cleaner (P/N 1052626) or an equivalent product. In case of excessive deposits, disassemble the Throttle Body for deep cleaning using a parts cleaning brush that has not to be immersed in any solvent. Then clean up and mount the Throttle Body back.
