2003 GMC Safari Throttle Body Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the throttle body assembly on 2003 GMC Safari?
A: Begin Throttle Body assembly replacement by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and unmounting the engine cover, air cleaner outlet resonator, and air cleaner outlet resonator adapter stud. Detach the cruise control cable and accelerator cable before removing the stud and nuts which hold the accelerator control cable bracket. Keep the bracket aside. First disconnect the (IAC) valve harness connector and (TP) sensor harness connector then remove the Throttle Body retaining studs while discarding the Throttle Body seal before finally taking out the Throttle Body assembly. Install the Throttle Body assembly after cleaning the Intake Manifold gasket surface while using a new seal and tight its retaining studs to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Attach the air cleaner outlet resonator adapter stud by applying 8 n.m (71 lb in) torque while reconnecting the tp sensor and iac valve harness connectors. Secure the accelerator control cable bracket fasteners at 12 n.m (106 lb in) before installing the accelerator cable but also check that no cable prevents either accelerator operation or cruise control function. Install the engine cover and cruise control cable followed by the negative Battery Cable then the air cleaner outlet resonator. The procedure to check the accelerator pedal requires the operator to push the pedal to the floor mark and evaluate its free movement with no throttle binding experienced during the journey between full and closed throttle position.
