2006 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring in the steering wheel module on 2006 Buick Lucerne?
A: First, disable the sir system to replace the inflatable restraint air bag clock spring. Make sure the wheels of the vehicle are straight ahead and the steering column anti rotation pin (J 42640) are in position or the ignition switch is at lock position. Pull the Steering Wheel off of the Steering Shaft and if the tilt column is equipped pull the tilt lever straight out then take off 2 torx(R) head screws from the lower trim cover then remove cover. Then, pop 2 torx(R) head screws out of the upper trim cover and also remove the upper cover. Remove the wire harness straps from the Steering Wheel column wire harness, remove the retaining ring and the sir coil from the Steering Shaft, disposing of the old coil if it is removed. For installation check again that the wheels are straight ahead and you have installed or the ignition switch is in lock. Verify again that the wheels are straight ahead and that the steering column anti rotation pin (J 42640) is installed or the ignition switch lock. In case of reusing the existing coil, make sure that it is in the middle. Mount the new sir coil assembly with the horn tower and turn signal cancel cam assembly, slide the sir coil onto the Steering Shaft assembly, and securely place the retaining ring into groove. Take out and dispose of the centering tab of the sir coil, install the upper trim cover and fix it using 2 torx(R) head screws that are meant to be tightened to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Mount the lower trim cover and fasten it using 2 torx(R) head screws, making sure the lower cover takes tabs with the upper cover. Lastly, you should align and slide the tilt lever handle into the steering column, mount the Steering Wheel onto the Steering Shaft, and activate the sir system.
