    Q:
How to remove and replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable on Buick Lucerne? Posted by Customer
    A:
A vehicle's air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable replacement procedure requires disablement of the sir system first. You must first make sure the wheels point forward at a straight angle and the Steering Column is locked in position before removing the Steering Column or intermediate shaft from the steering gear as any harm to the sir coil assembly will occur. You can check for the installation of the Steering Column anti rotation pin (J 42640) or verify the Ignition Switch position using it again. Begin by removing the Steering Wheel from the Steering Shaft followed by pulling the tilt lever straight out for tilt column vehicles. Then detach the lower trim cover using 2 torx(R) head screws and the upper trim cover using another 2 torx(R) head screws. Remove the retaining ring and detach wire harness straps from the Steering Wheel column wire harness before you can extract the sir coil from the Steering Shaft assembly. Throw away the original coil if you are replacing it. The new sir coil assembly must be properly centered before installation and keep the centering tab in place until the process is finished. Insert the sir coil assembly at its proper position relative to the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly then push the Steering Shaft assembly to accept the coil and push the retaining ring firmly into position. Install the upper trim cover using 2 torx(R) head screws and torque to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Following this install the lower trim cover with 2 torx(R) head screws torqued to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Start by letting the tabs of the lower trim cover interact with the upper trim cover before inserting the tilt lever handle into the Steering Column. Then install the Steering Wheel onto the Steering Shaft before enabling the sir system but making sure to tighten all torx(R) head screws to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in).

    Q:
How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring in the Steering Wheel on Cadillac DTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
First, disable the sir system before replacing the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil. Make sure the wheels are straight ahead, and if the steering column anti rotation pin (J 42640) is assembled, or if the ignition key is in the lock position. Take off the lower trim part by removing 2 screws with the screwdrivers that have a torx(R) head and the upper trim part by removing 2 screws with the screwdrivers that have a torx(R) head, then pull out the tilt lever in case you need to pull it straight out before taking off the Steering Wheel to steer away from the Steering Shaft. Gently snap apart the wire harness straps found at the Steering Wheel column wire harness before unbining the retaining ring and the air bag clock spring at the Steering Shaft. When replacing, replace the old air bag clock spring with a new one. For installation, cross-check that the wheels are straight ahead, and the steering column anti rotation pin (J 42640) is fitted or the ignition switch is in lock position. If you choose to re-use the existing coil, make sure it is centered. Cue up the new air bag clock spring assembly with the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly and slide the air bag clock spring onto the Steering Shaft assembly. Secure the retaining ring into the groove of Steering Shaft assembly and after that, unclip the centering tab from new air bag clock spring. Install the upper trim cover using 2 torx® head screws assuming it's tightened to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in), in addition to lower trim cover secured using 2 torx® head screws and also tightened to 1.5 n.m(13 lb in). Check that the tabs on the lower trim cover interact with the upper trim cover before placing and securing the tilt lever into the steering column. Lastly, attach the Steering Wheel onto the Steering Shaft and operate the sir system.

    Q:
How to Remove and Replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before you start the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable replacement you need to disable the sir system activation. Straighten the wheels and lock the Steering Column into position before you start to prevent possible damage to the sir coil assembly. First loosen the Steering Wheel from the Steering Shaft before pulling out the tilt lever on vehicles equipped with a tilt column. Secondly remove 2 torx(R) head screws from the lower trim cover before removing the lower trim cover itself. Start by removing the upper trim cover through its two torx(R) head screws before taking out the upper trim cover. First disconnect the wire harness straps attached to the Steering Wheel column wire harness before removing the retaining ring and sir coil from the Steering Shaft. Remove and discard the original sir coil in replacement situations. Installation of the new sir coil assembly should happen while keeping the assembly positioned in the middle and with the vehicle steer wheel facing directly ahead. Start by aligning the sir coil assembly with the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly then slide the sir coil onto the Steering Shaft assembly until you firmly seat the retaining ring into the groove. Cut off the centering tab which is found on the new sir coil. Attach the upper trim piece with two torx(R) head screws and tighten them to 1.5 nm (13 lb in). Afterward, fix the lower trim cover in place with two torx(R) head screws while making sure the tabs correctly mesh. The tilt lever handle for vehicles with a tilt column should align and slide into the Steering Column until it locks in place. Move forward by setting the Steering Wheel onto its correct position on the Steering Shaft and active the sir system.
