- Q: How to replace the water pump (RPO L26) on 2006 Buick Lucerne?A: Starting replacement of the Water Pump (RPO L26) begins with draining the cooling system. You should unfasten the Water Pump Pulley bolts and eliminate the Drive Belt. After that remove the Water Pump Pulley bolts and Water Pump Pulley. Unbolt and push aside the Power Steering Pump next before extracting all Water Pump bolts to take out the pump. After removing the Water Pump Gasket clean and check its joining faces for damage. Before installing put the Water Pump Gasket and assemble the new Water Pump unit. Use the j45059 angle meter to torque Water Pump bolts to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) plus an 80-degree additional turn. Reanchor the Power Steering Pump to its chassis supports and fasten the bolts at 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs. Torque settings). Adjust the Water Pump Pulley bolts first before placing the Drive Belt and final tightening. After fitting the Drive Belt secure the Water Pump Pulley bolts at 13 nm (115 inch lbs.) then refill the cooling system.
