2006 Buick Rainier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal and housing on 2006 Buick Rainier?
A: Replacing the Crankshaft rear oil seal and housing starts with transmission and Flywheel bolt removal before extracting the Flywheel. Begin by removing the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts then install two bolts into jackscrew holes to free the cover from the block. First you must remove the Crankshaft along with the rear oil seal housing before pulling out the seal from the Crankshaft's end. Apply the j 44227 rear seal installer to set the Crankshaft rear oil seal before taking out the tool from the installation. Add a 3 mm (0.12 inch) dab of sealant around the rear oil seal housing. Insert cover alignment pins (J 44219) into the block while using the plastic installation sleeve which becomes garbage following installation. Place the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing onto the alignment pins and Crankshaft before securing the housing bolts except those used for guide pins. After removing guide pins, install the remaining housing bolts while tightening each to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). After cleaning off the remains from the oil pan sealing section wipe down the bottom surface before attaching the Flywheel and tightening all bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) following the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) procedure to achieve an additional 50-degree bolt torque (J 36660-A).
