2007 Buick Rainier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal and housing on 2007 Buick Rainier?
A: The procedure for Crankshaft rear oil seal and housing replacement requires starting by removing the transmission system followed by removing Flywheel bolts to remove the Flywheel. Start by unthreading the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts then install two bolts into the jackscrew holes to detach the cover from the block. The replacement process starts by removing first the Crankshaft and rear oil seal housing before extracting the oil seal from the Crankshaft snout. Use the rear seal installer (J 44227) to install Crankshaft rear oil seal before removing the installer tool. Drop a 3 mm (0.12 in) sealant bead onto the rear oil seal housing. Place the cover alignment pins (J 44219) into the block but use the supplied plastic installation sleeve on the new seal before throwing it away after installation. After installing the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing over alignment pins and Crankshaft you must screw in all housing bolts but keep guide pins out. Use the guide pin insertion tool to remove the guide pins then install and tighten the remaining two housing bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Apply cleaning fluid to wipe away outliers from the Oil Pan sealing area before putting on the Flywheel and bolt it down using a sequence-based torque pattern reaching 25 n.m (18 lb ft). The torque angle meter (J 36660-A) assists engineers in tightening the bolts by an additional 50 degrees before putting the transmission back in place.
