The percentage of engine oil life must be retrieved through a scan tool before powertrain control module (PCM) replacement. Remove the pcm harness connectors from the pcm only after turning off the ignition to protect internal components and easing the pcm harness connector bolts. The pcm removal process starts with removing its retaining bolts and nuts before gently moving the pcm away from the Intake Manifold over the mounting studs to take it out of the vehicle. Mounting studs need replacement then you must install them to the Intake Manifold and tighten them at 6 n.m (53 lb in). The mounting studs accept the pcm and you should fasten it using retaining bolts and nuts which require a torque of 8 n.m (71 lb in). Secure the pcm harness connectors to their body while tightening retaining bolts to 8 n.m (71 lb in). The last step involves programming the new pcm because failure to set the existing oil life will cause an automatic 100 percent reset requiring an oil change within 5000 km (3,000 mi) since the previous change.
