2006 Buick Rainier Valve Stem Oil Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the valve stem oil seal and valve spring on 2006 Buick Rainier?
A: To fix the valve guide seal and valve spring you need valve stem seal remover and installer (J 38820) along with other tools including Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222), valve spring compressor (J -4228-A), and crankshaft balancer remover (J 44226). Group all valve train components as you take them apart to make reassembly easier. Setting air pressure to 50 psi first then pressurizing the cylinder keeps the crankshaft still. First lift the vehicle to work space and unplug the torque converter's access area. Position a crankshaft balancer remover tool with a 15 mm holding bar onto a torque converter bolt to secure the crankshaft before applying the tool (J 44226). Then lower the vehicle. The Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222) reduces valve train interruption by holding the Cylinder Head from chain damage while owners vertically tighten Camshaft sprocket bolts to keep proper timing chain tension. Put the Camshaft caps in a special tool for deposition before uninstalling them. Install a suitable air adapter in the cylinder and remove the Camshaft caps and camshafts. Fit the j -4228-a valve spring compressor to squeeze the valve springs after removing the valve keys with the tool. Take out the compressor last. Insert the j 38820 tool to remove the valve guide seals while you also take away both the spring retainer and valve spring. First clean the Cylinder Head then apply clean engine oil to the valve stems before installing them into place. Insert new valve seals into the cylinder with the valve stem seal remover and installer (J 38820). Then position the valve spring and retainer. Pressurize the valve springs once more while using the valve spring compressor (J -4228-A) before installing valve keys and taking out the compressor. After letting air pressure from the cylinder escape install the camshafts back to their factory position while applying clean engine oil to Camshaft journals and Camshaft lobes. Install the Camshaft caps by hand first and tighten the bolts to 12 nm before moving the Camshaft sprockets back into position and removing the Camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222). Place the intake Camshaft washer and bolt, plus the exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt. Tighten the intake bolt to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) using the torque wrench j 36660-a before rotating to 100 degrees further. Use the torque wrench j 36660-a to apply an additional 135 degree twist to the exhaust bolt after you have already tightened it to 25 nm. End with these steps: bolt on the spark plugs, place the Camshaft cover, lift and secure the vehicle before taking off the crankshaft balancer remover. Then install the torque converter access plug and put the vehicle down.
