Valve Seals

Begin the valve stem oil seal and valve spring replacement process of the left side by taking out the Starter motor assembly. The Crankshaft can rotate if the en 46106 flywheel holding tool is absent which requires you to disassemble and reassemble the entire Camshaft timing system. The en 46106 should be installed as a Crankshaft rotation prevention tool before camshafts and rocker arms removal. Position the j 39313 Spark Plug port adapter through the appropriate cylinder and connect it to an air compressor. Place the en 46110 on-vehicle valve spring compressor directly above the targeted cylinder. Exercise caution as compressed valve springs exert high tension; unprocedural manipulation exposes individuals to possible harm. Keeping the valve springs at a minimum of 24.0 mm (0.943 in) compression protects the valve stem oil seal from damage. Begin by using en 46110 valve spring compressor nut tightening to secure the valve springs in place before removing the valve keepers using en 46117 valve stem key remover/installer. Start by loosening the en 46110 valve spring compressor nut before removing the valve spring retainer and valve spring. The en 46116 valve stem seal remover/installer enables effective removal of valve stem seals. The installation process begins with the en 46116 tool to position the new valve stem seal then continues with the installation of valve spring and valve spring retainer. Position the en 46110 valve spring compressor above the valve spring before tightening the compressor nut with the valve keepers oriented correctly so their tapered ends face the valve stem seal. First follow up by compressing the spring and then use en 46117 to position the valve keepers. Finally detach j 39313 from compressed air and remove en 46110. Following Spark Plug installation, put on the rocker arms and camshafts and remove the en 46106 tool before reattaching the Starter motor.

Performing both valve guide and valve stem oil seals along with valve spring replacement requires these tools: Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) and valve spring compressor (J 38606). You should start by taking off the Rocker Arm and unwinding the Spark Plug wire boot at the Spark Plug one half turn before gently pulling it out. Heat-soak the engine until it touches room temperature then gently turn spark plugs 1 or 2 times before cleaning them with a brush or air compressor. Insert the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) into the Spark Plug hole and fit an air hose before pressing compressed air to stabilize the valves in their positions. Our valve spring compressor j 38606 tool lets you compress the spring before using tongs to remove valve stem keys (225) and slowly easing spring tension. Eject the valve spring compressor tool label j 38606 with all valve components. Remove the valve spring cap 224 and both valve spring 223 Valve Stem Oil Seal 222 then extract the valve 228. Place valves (228) into their correct position then install Valve Stem Oil Seal (222), valve spring (223), and valve spring cap (224) after cleaning the valve spring seat area of the Cylinder Head. Use the valve spring compressor j 38606 to press the valve spring then place valve keys in position using grease and validate they enter valve stem grooves correctly. Slowly let valve spring pressure pass through while keeping valve keys positioned and detach the valve spring compressor tool (J 38606). A plastic faced hammer taps helps seat the keys if they do not go into place by hand. After taking off the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794), push down the Spark Plug by hand before fastening it at 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Check if the Spark Plug Wires fit correctly on the Ignition Coil and Spark Plug before putting back the Rocker Arm.

Before starting the Valve Stem Oil Seal service you need to take off the Rocker Arm. Move each Spark Plug wire boot 1/2 turn and gently pull only on the boot to disconnect. Brush or air blast each Spark Plug opening at room temperature until no more dirt remains before removing them and turning each Spark Plug 1 or 2 times. Insert the tool j 22794 into the Spark Plug opening before connecting an Air Hose and starting compressed air to restrain the valves. Position the j 38606 device to press down the valve spring before removing valve stem keys (225) while controlling the spring movement. Disassemble the j 38606 tool, valve spring cap 224, valve spring 223, Valve Stem Oil Seal 222, and take out valve 228. Wipe oil from the Cylinder Head valve spring area and apply oil to both the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal. Thread each valve (228) into its intended port then insert the Valve Stem Oil Seal (222), fit the valve spring (223) and valve spring cap (224). Push valve keys into their grooves using grease to retain them then place and compress valve spring using (J 38606). Release the valve spring pressure from (J 38606) gently while keeping the valve keys in position and take out (J 38606) afterwards. Seat the keys onto the valve stem if needed by tapping its tip lightly with a plastic faced hammer. Insert the (J 22794) into the Spark Plug socket and begin the engine manually using the hand tools. Tighten the Spark Plug to 15 nm (11 lb ft). Install the Spark Plug Wires first to the Ignition Coil then to the Spark Plug. Check each boot connection by pushing sideways and fixing loose boots when found. Finally, install the Rocker Arm.

Serviceability of valve guide seal and valve spring needs Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) and valve spring compressor (J 38606). First detach the Rocker Arm and unscrew the Spark Plug wire at its port. Twist each wire boot half way and pull purely from the boot to disconnect the wire. At normal engine temperature loosen spark plugs 1 or 2 turns before air blowing their dirt away and taking them out. Insert the Spark Plug port adapter part j 22794 into the Spark Plug hole then link an air tube and blow air to retain valve function. Use the valve spring compressor j 38606 to compress the valve spring ahead of removing valve stem keys followed by slowly releasing the spring tension and taking out the compressor. First take off the valve spring cap followed by the valve spring and valve guide seal plus its accompanying shim. Clean inside the Cylinder Head valve seat area while placing the valve guide seal and shim over clean engine oil. Press the valve spring into place with the valve spring compressor (J 38606) while placing the valve keys in position and holding them with grease. Check if the key fits into the valve stem groove and ease valve spring pressure while pulling out the compressor tool. Use the plastic hammer gently to set the keys in place if needed. Complete the job by starting the Spark Plug manually and tightening it to 11 ft. Lbs. Attach ignition coil wires then inspect the connections before fitting the Rocker Arm again.

Two tools are needed to do this work: j22794 Spark Plug port adapter and j38606 valve spring compressor. Untwist the Spark Plug wire boots 1/2 turn before pulling off the entire boot from the Spark Plug end. Take the spark plugs out from the Cylinder Head when the engine stands at normal indoor temperature but rotate them 1 or 2 turns initially for air or cleaning before pulling them all the way. Use the Spark Plug port adapter j22794 to position the Spark Plug hole while connecting an air hose and passing compressed air to fix the valves in place. The valve spring compressor model j38606 helps you compress the valve spring before you take out the valve stem keys and slowly let go of the valve spring pressure. This step completes the spring compression process. First take off the valve spring cap then the valve spring along with Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim. Apply engine oil to the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal then position the Valve Stem Oil Seal and required shim on top. Fit the valve spring into position and valve spring cap on top. Use the valve spring compressor (J38606) to load the valve spring before installing the valve keys through their grooves on the valve stem. After letting off valve spring tension gently remove the compressor. Then hit the plastic-headed hammer on the valve stem tip to seat the keys when needed. Begin by removing the port adapter j22794 and manually start the Spark Plug using hand torque. Tighten it to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) before connecting Spark Plug Wires to their corresponding locations at the Ignition Coil and Spark Plug. Double-check correctness before installing the Rocker Arm.

Begin working on the Valve Stem Oil Seal repair by supporting and raising the vehicle properly. Insert the keeping tool en 46547 into the Flywheel teeth first before placing the car down on stands. Take away both camshafts and spark plugs first. Set the j-44228-a base plate over the Spark Plug hole of the chosen cylinder and insert the j 39313 tool into the Spark Plug space. Maintain constant air pressure on the valve spring compressor j-44228-a device to keep the valve locked in position. Hold the j-44228-a arm and swivel nut onto the suitable valve stud while keeping in mind the powerful compression forces of the valve springs. Twist the swivel nut only until you reach the valve lock system. Then you can reach in with a magnet to remove the valve locks. Finish the procedure by taking off the valve spring retainer and spring after moving the swivel nut and swing arm. Apply the j 38820 tool to grasp and extract the old Valve Stem Oil Seal through a turning and pulling movement. Oil the valve stem and inlet of the new seal with engine oil before inserting the new Valve Stem Oil Seal into the j 38820 tool and pushing it into place with twisting pressure. Set the valve assembly in its correct position through the valve locks and j 43059 into the valve retainer installer. Do the same operation on any other valve in the cylinder after removing the swivel nut and arm assembly of j-44228-a. Service all valves before releasing the air pressure to take out the j 39313 and then remove the base plate of the j-44228-a. Complete the procedure by putting back the spark plugs and camshafts then lifting the car up. Take out the en 46547 from the Flywheel and install its service plug before lowering the vehicle.

The technician needs j 22794 Spark Plug port adapter plus j 38606 valve spring compressor in combination with j 5892-d valve spring compressor and j 42073 Valve Stem Oil Seal installer to perform Valve Stem Oil Seal work. Start by taking off the valve Rocker Arm cover and then eliminating all required valve rocker arms plus spark plugs. Insert j 22794 (Spark Plug Port Adapter) in Spark Plug hole when pressurized air from a shop hose supports the valves. Put on the valve spring port bolt and set it up in the valve Rocker Arm bolt aperture but do not tighten. Handle the valve springs with care since they experience strong compressive tension. You can compress the valve spring with j 5892-d (Valve Spring Compressor) model by placing its slot under the washer on the valve Rocker Arm bolt and maintaining gradual pressure until the valve keys become accessible. When needed activate the j 38606 (Valve Spring Compressor) for better connection control. Take out the valve keys and unwind the valve spring tension before removing the j 5892-d or j 38606. First take off the Valve Stem Oil Seal after you remove both the valve spring cap and spring. Put the right Valve Stem Oil Seal in position and cover it with oil before setting it onto the valve stem. With the j 42073 (Valve Stem Oil Seal Installer) tool place the Valve Stem Oil Seal onto the valve guide and keep a 1-2 millimeter space between them. Reassemble the valve spring and spring cap after compressing it again with j 5892-d or j 38606 when necessary. Apply grease to the stem keys during installation before placing the valve stem o-ring seal and keys onto their positions. Unwind the valve spring pressure after making sure the keys stay positioned correctly and take off the j 5892-d or j 38606. To complete the repair thread the valve keys into place. Sink the end of the valve stem gently if needed. Remove the j 22794 and put back the spark plugs rocker arms and valve Rocker Arm cover.

To work on the Valve Stem Oil Seal you must first take out all required valve rocker arms plus spark plugs. Thread in the j 22794 adapter at the Spark Plug port and link a shop air supply through a hose to hold the valves steady. Respace the flat washer on your bolt before reinserting the bolt and Rocker Arm onto the valve spring you need to remove. Take care during valve spring handling since these parts have strong tension which puts you at danger of physical harm. Push the j 5892-d (Valve Spring Compressor) under the Rocker Arm washer slot before pressing it steady so you can reach the valve keys with your tool. You can substitute the j 38606 (Valve Spring Compressor) when needed. Unplug the valve keys and gently let go the valve spring grip through the j 5892-d or j 38606's handle. First move past the valve spring cap and valve spring. Then take out the Valve Stem Oil Seal. Put the valve in its designated guide and apply engine oil to both valve guide and valve stem before installing the Valve Stem Oil Seal with the j 42073 gear. Push the seal down the valve guide until the j 42073 stops at the valve spring seat yet leaves 1-2mm space between seal and guide. Place the valve spring on top and set the valve spring cap. Use j 5892-d to compress the spring gently until the valve keys become reachable for assembly. When valve clearance is insufficient stay with the j 38606 tool design. Insert the valve stem o-ring seal over its space while positioning the valve stem keys into place using grease as a holder. Let go of the valve springs gently to make sure the keys stay fitted properly within the valve spring cap to avoid power unit destruction. Test if valve stem keys fit correctly and gently tap stem using a plastic hammer if needed while removing j 5892-d or j 38606 equipment. Put back the spark plugs and valve rocker arms after taking out the j 22794 component.

Before starting work on the Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring you must take off the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Keep the Piston in the cylinder being serviced at the lowest point of its movement to stop engine spin during compressed air use. Adjust the Crankshaft so both valves are sealed before taking out the Spark Plug from the cylinder. You need to install the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) into the Spark Plug opening before holding the valves shut with compressed air. Press the valve spring cap gently to free up its keys. Then place and fasten the valve spring compressor (J 5892-D) onto the Cylinder Head. Install the valve spring compressor (J 5892-D) on the valve spring and take away the valve stem keys while keeping compressed air from escaping the cylinder. Take off your tools one by one as you lower the valve spring compressor (J 5892-D) from the Cylinder Head and eject the valve spring cap and spring. First apply engine oil at the valve stem and seal region before sliding the valve guide seal over the valve guide. Also use clean oil to lubricate rotators inside the valve spring. Drive the valve stem seal installer j 43105 to position the valve guide seal over the valve tip and guide before pressing it down firmly. Insert the valve spring cap into the correct position with its small end facing upwards and put the spring on top. Press down the valve spring using the valve spring compressor (J 5892-D) while placing valve stem keys in position with clean grease on top. Take the valve spring compressor (J 5892-D) off the valve assembly while pressing its release button before pulling out the device. Drain compressed air from the cylinder afterwards. After adding the Spark Plug put back the valve rocker arms and pushrods.

The Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) and valve spring compressor (J 38606) are needed to do Valve Stem Oil Seal service and replace the Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring. First take off the Rocker Arm and unplug the Spark Plug wire at the Spark Plug by rotating each wire boot 1/2 turn before gently pulling to disconnect it. The temperature-stable engine allows you to weaken spark plugs by half or full turn when removing them. After cleaning with a brush or air nozzle, take the plugs out. Place the Spark Plug port adapter part j 22794 into the Spark Plug opening and connect an air hose. Use compressed air to keep the engine valves steady. The valve spring compressor device j 38606 compresses valve springs before you remove valve stem keys and release valve spring tension using the compressor. Reverse the process by taking out the valve spring cap then valve spring. After that remove the Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim. Apply engine oil to the valve areas and position the Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim in their places before installing the valve spring and spring cap. After applying grease to the valve keys position them in their grooves and use the valve spring compressor (J 38606) to compress the valve spring. Open the valve spring pressure and take the compressor out. Then strike gently the valve stem end with a plastic hammer to settle the keys if needed. Take the Spark Plug port adapter part number j 22794 from the Spark Plug opening. Start the Spark Plug by hand and fix it with 15 nm torque (11 ft. Lbs. Force). Rephrase these final steps to ensure correct results. Begin by fitting the Spark Plug Wires to the Ignition Coil then attach connections between the Spark Plug Wires and spark plugs. Verify wire placement and replace loose protective boots before placing the Rocker Arm back into position.

The first stage of work involves removing the Rocker Arm before starting the Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring replacement. Turn the Spark Plug wire boot 1/2 turn and gently remove it at the base. Umbuckle the spark plugs 1 or 2 turns first making sure to brush away dust when the motor is at regular room temperature. Push the j 22794 adapter into the Spark Plug hole and join it to the Air Hose while the air pressure keeps the valves in position. Use the j 38606 (Valve Spring Compressor) to compress the valve spring. Then take out valve stem keys (225) before carefully loosening valve spring tension. Take off the j 38606 device before working on the valve spring cap (224), valve spring (223), Valve Stem Oil Seal (222), and valve (228). The valve spring seat area needs cleaning, while valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal require engine oil lubrication. Place valves (228) into ports first then coat Valve Stem Oil Seal (222), valve spring (223), and valve spring cap (224) one after another. Use the j 38606 to squeeze the valve spring then add valve keys while applying grease on them and verifying good contact in valve stem tracking. Slowly let go of the valve spring tension while keeping the valve keys locked in position before taking out the j 38606. Gently hit the valve stem tip with a hammer made of plastic material to ensure the keys reach their proper position. Thread the j 22794 back into the Spark Plug port then turn the hand starter to light the Spark Plug before torquing it to 15 nm (11 lb ft). Push each Spark Plug wire boot gently to see if it needs replacing after you attach one end to the Ignition Coil and the other end to the Spark Plug. Finally, install the Rocker Arm.

For Valve Stem Oil Seal service and replacement of Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring the needed tools include Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794), valve spring compressor (J 38606), and Valve Stem Oil Seal installer (J 42078). Start the service by unscrewing the valve Rocker Arm and disconnecting the Spark Plug wire from its base. Remove the wire using only the boot and turn it half a turn counterclockwise. If spark plugs are removed from the Cylinder Head at normal engine temperature they can turn very easily while you rinse away debris. Take the commands and adapter j 22794 into the Spark Plug opening then connect an air hose for pressure that holds valves steady. The valve spring compressor j 38606 presses down valve springs while you extract the valve stem keys and lets you carefully relieve valve tension before taking away the compressor tool. Take off the valve spring cap and spring from the assembly. To make the first design change you must take off the Valve Stem Oil Seal plus valve spring shim. The second design needs a Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim removal. First clean the space where the valve spring seat is located before adding the valve spring shim on the initial design and the Valve Stem Oil Seal together with the second design's shim. The Valve Stem Oil Seal installer (J 42078) is not necessary for installing the second design. Position the Valve Stem Oil Seal properly on the valve guide to stop oil loss and preserve the valve parts. Apply clean oil to the valve guide before inserting the first design Valve Stem Oil Seal onto the valve stem. Place the right oil seal into position using the Valve Stem Oil Seal installer tool (J 42078). Check the space between the valve spring shim surface and the top oil seal edge to be 18.1 mm to 19.1 mm (0.712 inch to 0.752 inch). Place the valve components together with the spring compressor j 38606 and valve spring. Dust the valve heads with grease to secure them during installation. Slowly let valve spring pressure out while keeping the keys in place and take out the compressor. Strike the valve stem with a plastic head hammer if necessary to push the seat for keys properly. Use the plug spark adapter j 22794 tool to begin the spin on Spark Plug then secure it to 15 nm (11 ft.lbs) before reinstalling plug wires and coil.

Before starting Valve Stem Oil Seal repairs you need four special tools (J 38820, J 44222, J-44228-A, J 44226). First move all valve train parts to a specific location to get them back together correctly. Set air pressure at 50 psi then begin pressurizing the cylinder so the crankshaft stays locked. Hoist the vehicle and take out the torque converter access plug before you lift the car. Insert the (J 44226-3A) 15 mm holding bar onto the torque converter bolt to stop the crankshaft from rotating before lowering the vehicle. Secure the (J 44222) tool onto the Cylinder Head first to shield timing chain components. Later adjust both horizontal bolts on the Camshaft sprockets. Put the Camshaft caps in the rack and take off the Camshaft cap bolts while moving the sprockets with their attached timing chain away from the camshafts. Seal the cylinder with an appropriate adapter and boost air through it while you take off the Camshaft caps and camshafts from the engine block. Put the (J-44228-A) device to squeeze valve springs before taking out valve keys plus (J-44228-A). Switch the (J 38820) tool to remove the valve spring parts before removing the valve stem oil seals with the same tool. Check and clean the engine top brass. Apply new engine oil to the valve stems only after installing them into their position. Install valve stem oil seals through the (J 38820) and put in the valve spring following the valve spring retainer. After pressing valve springs with the (J-44228-A), add valve keys to the Cylinder Head before removing the (J-44228-A). Pressurize the cylinder unit and apply engine oil through it to coat Camshaft journals thrust face and lobes. Set the camshafts back in their natural location. Place Camshaft caps at their original slots and tighten cap bolts to 12 nm (106 lb in). Reposition the Camshaft sprockets back onto their camshafts then separate them from (J 44222). Insert a fresh intake Camshaft sprocket washer and bolt plus a new exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt before tightening the intake Camshaft sprocket nut to 20 nm (15 pound feet) on one pass but force the nut another 100 degrees using the (J 36660-A). Hand-tighten the exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt to 25 nm (18 lb ft) before completing it with the (J 36660-A) to an additional 135 degrees. Put the spark plugs in before setting the Camshaft cover above them. Raising the vehicle lets you take out the torque converter bolt holding the (J 44226-3A), place the access plug on it, and return the vehicle to ground level.

You need three tools to service valve stem oil seals and replace all valve components: en-47823 valve spring compressor adapter (EN-47823), j 22794 Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794), and j 5892-d valve spring compressor. Starting at top dead center position ensures the valve stays out of the cylinder during engine rotation. Before taking out the Spark Plug remove the loosened plug to clear dust buildup inside its socket. Pull off the Spark Plug and then take out the Rocker Arm. Put the j 22794 adapter into the Spark Plug port then let compressed air keep the valve steady. Place the valve spring between the j 5892-d compressor and en-47823 tool to compress the spring. Turn off the valve spring cap keys, valve cap, valve spring, Valve Stem Oil Seal and place them in order. Put clean engine oil on the valve stem followed by the right valve stem oil seals (black for intake and brown for exhaust). Insert the valve spring and valve cap while using the j 5892-d tool with en-47823 to compress the valve spring once again. Insert the valve cap keys and hold them with grease when needed before placing them correctly. Let compressed air leave while you take the j 22794 from the Spark Plug port. Reattach both components in their proper positions.

A technician requires two tools to complete Valve Stem Oil Seal service: spark plug port adapter j 22794 and valve spring compressor j 38606. Begin by taking off the valve Rocker Arm. First disconnect the Spark Plug wire using a boot twist of 1/2 turn before pulling on the boot only. Extract and prepare the spark plugs from their engine position once it's room temperature by turning them 1-2 times while clearing away any dirt nearby. Fit the Spark Plug port adapter j 22794 into the Spark Plug hole then connect an air hose while compressed air locks the valves. Insert the valve spring compressor (J 38606) tool to squeeze the valve spring then take out valve stem keys prior to releasing valve spring pressure. Unscrew the valve spring compressor j 38606 then extract both the valve spring cap and valve spring while also discontinuing the Valve Stem Oil Seal/shim unit. Prepare the valve spring seat with clean oil and apply lubricant to the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal before inserting the valve parts stepwise in that order. Use the valve spring compressor tool j 38606 to press down the valve spring then put in valve keys and confirm they fit within the valve stem groove. Take the valve spring compressor apart after lowering its valve spring force. Use a plastic hammer to tap the valve stem if necessary until its keys properly seat in the groove. Start the Spark Plug by hand while you install the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) back into its port. Tighten the Spark Plug to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Push each boot sideways into its right position when reconnecting the Spark Plug Wires between Ignition Coil and Spark Plug. Close the procedure by placing the valve Rocker Arm.

Service the Valve Stem Oil Seal while you replace both the Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring by starting with a vehicle lift. Slide out the service slot plug then fasten the en 46547 (Flywheel Holding Tool) onto Flywheel teeth before setting the vehicle down. Start by taking off both camshafts plus spark plugs. Position the j-44228-a base plate over the cylinder Spark Plug hole for the service. Insert the j 39313 Spark Plug adapter into the hole then apply steady air pressure to seal the valve. Put the j-44228-a arm assembly over the appropriate stud while handling the strong valve spring compression force. The swivel nut should be tightened lightly to expose valve locks that can be picked off with a magnet. Use the swivel nut tool to loosen the device and redirect the arm to remove both valve spring parts. Push and turn the j 38820 valve stem seal installer to take out the old Valve Stem Oil Seal. Apply engine oil to the valve stem and insert the new seal through the j 38820 before pushing and twisting to install it correctly. Reposition the valve locks by using the j 43059 tool after you tighten the swivel nut only enough for the valve locks access and place the valve spring and valve spring retainer back. Take off the swivel nut and arm of the j-44228-a following this order for any other valve in the cylinder. Lower total system pressure before taking out the j 39313 Spark Plug tool from the hole and removing the j-44228-a base plate. Service all cylinders this way then put back the spark plugs and camshafts. Lower the vehicle while placing the service plug in position then take off the en 46547 tool from the Flywheel teeth before returning the vehicle to its original position.

For Valve Stem Oil Seal service and replacement of Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring the needed tools include Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794), valve spring compressor (J 38606), and Valve Stem Oil Seal installer (J 42078). Start the service by unscrewing the valve Rocker Arm and disconnecting the Spark Plug wire from its base. Remove the wire using only the boot and turn it half a turn counterclockwise. If spark plugs are removed from the Cylinder Head at normal engine temperature they can turn very easily while you rinse away debris. The Valve Stem Oil Seal installer (J 42078) is not necessary for installing the second design. Position the Valve Stem Oil Seal properly on the valve guide to stop oil loss and preserve the valve parts. Apply clean oil to the valve guide before inserting the first design Valve Stem Oil Seal onto the valve stem. Place the right oil seal into position using the Valve Stem Oil Seal installer tool (J 42078). Check the space between the valve spring shim surface and the top oil seal edge to be 18.1 mm to 19.1 mm (0.712 inch to 0.752 inch). Place the valve components together with the spring compressor j 38606 and valve spring. Dust the valve heads with grease to secure them during installation. Slowly let valve spring pressure out while keeping the keys in place and take out the compressor. Strike the valve stem with a plastic head hammer if necessary to push the seat for keys properly. Use the plug spark adapter j 22794 tool to begin the spin on Spark Plug then secure it to 15 nm (11 ft.lbs) before reinstalling plug wires and coil.

Repairing the Valve Stem Oil Seal and installing new Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring needs Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) and valve spring compressor (J 38606). Start by removing the Rocker Arm and disconnect the Spark Plug wire from the Spark Plug. Turn each plug boot 1/2 turn and pull only on the boot to extract the wire. Start the process only when the engine cools down to room temperature. Slowly turn the Spark Plug one to two rotations while inspecting for debris around it. Insert the Spark Plug port adapter j 22794 into the Spark Plug hole and connect air pipes while applying compressed air to protect the valves. Compress the valve spring using valve spring compressor (J 38606) and then remove valve stem keys (225) before unhurled the valve spring tension by releasing the compressor. Take these parts in this sequence: remove the valve spring cap at position 224, then the valve spring 223, Valve Stem Oil Seal 222, and finally the valve 228. Cover the valve spring seat by cleaning it first before adding oil to the valve guide and installing the Valve Stem Oil Seal. Push each valve (228) into its designated opening while placing Valve Stem Oil Seal (222) and valve spring (223) before fitting valve spring cap (224). Set the valve spring with the valve spring compressor (J 38606) then install valve keys applying grease to keep them in position and make sure they fit completely onto valve stem grooves. Ease the valve spring force while making sure the valve keys stay set in place before removing the compressor tool. After that, gently hit the valve end with a plastic face hammer to make sure the keys settle in. To install the Spark Plug start hand rotating it clockwise while doing up the port patch retainer j 22794. Apply torque of 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Complete the installation by attaching the Spark Plug Wires to their connections at the Ignition Coil and next to the Spark Plug. Verify correct fitting by checking each boot for proper seating and fix any that need adjustment before you put back the Rocker Arm.

Do not compress the valve springs to less than 24.0 mm (0.943 in).

The required tools are: Valve Stem Seal Remover and Installer (J 38820), Camshaft Sprocket Holding Tool (J 44222), Valve Spring Compressor (J -4228-A), and Crankshaft Balancer Remover (J 44226).

If necessary, tap the end of the valve stem with a plastic faced hammer to seat the keys.

Tap the end of the valve stem with a plastic face hammer.

Remove the valve rocker arms and the spark plug wire from the spark plug of the cylinder being serviced.

Twist each boot 1/2 turn and pull only on the boot.

690 kPa (100 psi).

Insert an air hose adaptor into the spark plug hole and pressurize the cylinder to 690 kPa (100 psi).

Rotate the engine to position the piston at top dead center (TDC).

The required tools are Valve Spring Compressor (J 43649), Valve Guide Seal Remover (J 36017), Flywheel Holding Tool (J 43653), and Sprocket Holding Tool (J 43655).

Reinstall the rocker arm and spark plug.

The required tools are Valve Spring Compressor Adapter (EN-47823), Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794), and Valve Spring Compressor (J 5892-D).

Connect a shop air supply hose to apply compressed air.

Finally, install the spark plug wires at the ignition coil and to the spark plug, inspecting the wires for proper installation before reinstalling the valve rocker arm.
