- Q: How to service and repair the valve guide seal, replace the valve stem oil seal, and valve spring on Cadillac Escalade?A:Before starting the Valve Stem Oil Seal service you need to take off the Rocker Arm. Move each Spark Plug wire boot 1/2 turn and gently pull only on the boot to disconnect. Brush or air blast each Spark Plug opening at room temperature until no more dirt remains before removing them and turning each Spark Plug 1 or 2 times. Insert the tool j 22794 into the Spark Plug opening before connecting an Air Hose and starting compressed air to restrain the valves. Position the j 38606 device to press down the valve spring before removing valve stem keys (225) while controlling the spring movement. Disassemble the j 38606 tool, valve spring cap 224, valve spring 223, Valve Stem Oil Seal 222, and take out valve 228. Wipe oil from the Cylinder Head valve spring area and apply oil to both the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal. Thread each valve (228) into its intended port then insert the Valve Stem Oil Seal (222), fit the valve spring (223) and valve spring cap (224). Push valve keys into their grooves using grease to retain them then place and compress valve spring using (J 38606). Release the valve spring pressure from (J 38606) gently while keeping the valve keys in position and take out (J 38606) afterwards. Seat the keys onto the valve stem if needed by tapping its tip lightly with a plastic faced hammer. Insert the (J 22794) into the Spark Plug socket and begin the engine manually using the hand tools. Tighten the Spark Plug to 15 nm (11 lb ft). Install the Spark Plug Wires first to the Ignition Coil then to the Spark Plug. Check each boot connection by pushing sideways and fixing loose boots when found. Finally, install the Rocker Arm.

Using en 46106 will protect the Camshaft timing system from needing complete disassembly because the tool prevents Crankshaft rotation. Take off camshafts and rocker arms followed by removing the Spark Plug from its installed cylinder. Put the j 39313 Spark Plug port adapter into the cylinder and join it to compressed air supply. Mount the en 46110 (On-Vehicle Valve Spring Compressor) above the cylinder and fasten its valve spring compressor nut. Loosen the valve spring compressor nut on the en 46110 tool and remove the valve springs and valve spring retainer while taking out the keepers. Set up the en 46116 tool to take off the valve stem seal. Put in new valve stem seals using the en 46116 tool before setting in the valve spring and retainer. Place the valve spring tool en 46110 back on top of the valve spring and secure its compressor nut. Install the valve spring keepers last. You can disconnect the j 39313 from air supply after you remove the en 46110. The final steps entail replacing all spark plugs as well as reinstalling the rocker arms and camshafts before removing the en 46106 tool and placing back the Starter motor.

Use a magnet to remove valve stem locks followed by swivel nut loosening so you can swing away the arm to extract the valve spring retainer and valve spring. Use the j 38820 tool to remove the old valve stem seal when replacement becomes necessary. Use clean engine oil to lubricate both the valve stem and the new seal before installing it into place by twisting and pushing with the j 38820. Swing the j 44211 arm holding the valve spring retainer and valve spring into position before tightening the swivel nut just enough to allow access to the valve locks. Use a magnet to position the valve locks before removing the swivel nut and arm from j 44211. Release the air pressure before removing the j 39313 tool from the Spark Plug hole and removing the base plate of the j 44211 . Install the Spark Plug then repeat the installation sequence for the other cylinders while replacing the right camshafts and taking out the en 46326 flywheel holder to begin Starter motor installation.
