Valve Seals

To repair and service the Valve Stem Oil Seal for Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring replacement you will need valve stem seal remover and installer (J 38820), camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222), valve spring compressor (J-44228-A), and crankshaft balancer remover (J 44226). Start by arranging all valve train parts during disassembly to help you put them back together correctly. Set air pressure to 50 psi first and then activate the cylinder but keep the crankshaft from moving. Support the vehicle at its height and take out the torque converter access plug. Mount the j 44226-3a holding bar to the torque converter bolt to stop crankshaft rotation then let the vehicle down. Place the j 44222 head immobilizer on the cylinder to protect Timing Chain parts before placing horizontal bolts into the Camshaft sprockets for proper chain tension. Rotate sprockets and Timing Chain off camshafts while removing Camshaft cap bolts plus storing the caps neatly for reassembly. Place Camshaft caps and camshafts aside before you use a proper adapter to blow air into the cylinder. Use j-44228-a device to compress the valve springs followed by key removal as the next step then take out valve spring retainer and spring. Use tool j 38820 to uncover seals from the Cylinder Head while preparing to check its condition. Before setting the valve parts slippery clean engine oil goes on valve stems. The j 38820 tool helps install valve stem oil seals then valve spring and retainer go on. Reapply the valve spring pressure using j-44228-a and position the valve keys properly before taking off the compressor. Lower cylinder pressure and apply clean oil to the camshafts. After that slide the camshafts back into their normal positions. Bolt the Camshaft caps into place before clamping them to 12 n.m (106 lb in). Line up the Camshaft sprockets onto their positions before taking off j 44222. Attach a new intake Camshaft washer and bolt with an exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt. Tighten the intake bolt to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) first and perform additional 100 degree tightening with j 36660-a. Begin with 25 n.m torque on the exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt before applying the j 36660-a tool two more times for a total final adjustment of 135 degrees. Reinstall the spark plugs and Camshaft cover then support the vehicle again.

Our work will need en 46106 flywheel holding tool, en 46110 on-vehicle valve spring compressor, en 46116 Valve Stem Oil Seal remover/installer, and j39313 Spark Plug port adapter. Start the repair by taking out the Starter motor. The en 46106 must be installed first to stop crankshaft movement due to potential need to disassemble and rebuild the whole timing system. Set aside both camshafts and rocker arms then take out the Spark Plug from the intended cylinder. Set the j39313 tool on the cylinder and join it to a mounted compressed air source. Fasten the en 46110 tool above the cylinder then turn its valve spring compressor nut. Turn off the valve keepers and unscrew the valve spring compressor nut. Take out both valve spring retainer and valve springs. Put the en 46116 tool into the valve stem to take out the seal. Install new valve stem oil seals by fitting them with en46116 then put on the valve spring and spring retainer. You can put back the valve spring once you secure the compressor nut of en 46110 above it. Take off the en 46110 and then disconnect j39313 from its air connection plus remove the j39313 part as well. At the end replace the spark plugs while positioning rocker arms and camshafts above them. Remove the en 46106 component and integrate the Starter motor again.

You must take out the Starter motor to replace both valve stem oil seal and valve spring elements on the right side. Using en 46106 will protect the Camshaft timing system from needing complete disassembly because the tool prevents Crankshaft rotation. Take off camshafts and rocker arms followed by removing the Spark Plug from its installed cylinder. Put the j 39313 Spark Plug port adapter into the cylinder and join it to compressed air supply. Mount the en 46110 (On-Vehicle Valve Spring Compressor) above the cylinder and fasten its valve spring compressor nut. Loosen the valve spring compressor nut on the en 46110 tool and remove the valve springs and valve spring retainer while taking out the keepers. Set up the en 46116 tool to take off the valve stem seal. Put in new valve stem seals using the en 46116 tool before setting in the valve spring and retainer. Place the valve spring tool en 46110 back on top of the valve spring and secure its compressor nut. Install the valve spring keepers last. You can disconnect the j 39313 from air supply after you remove the en 46110. The final steps entail replacing all spark plugs as well as reinstalling the rocker arms and camshafts before removing the en 46106 tool and placing back the Starter motor.

Two tools needed for the valve seal work are the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) and valve spring compressor (J 38606). You must remove the Rocker Arm first and detach the Spark Plug wire at the plug before twisting the boot 1/2 turn and carefully pulling the wire from its base. Begin your work only when the engine has cooled down. Then gently unwind the Spark Plug 1 or 2 turns. Clean all dirt that has built up around it. Attach the Spark Plug port adapter into the Spark Plug hole to keep valves open while compressed air blows through a connected air hose. Using valve spring compressor j 38606 compressed the valve spring so the technician could remove valve stem keys 225 and safely let tension go before tool removal. First take off the valve spring cap (224), valve spring (223), Valve Stem Oil Seal (222), and valve (228). Apply clean engine oil to the valve seat area before lubricating both valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal with oil for easy installation. Put valves (228) in designated ports and layer on the Valve Stem Oil Seal (222) below the valve spring (223) and valve spring cap (224). Press down the valve spring using the valve spring compressor j 38606 tool before setting the valve keys into position. Apply grease at both ends of the keys to hold them in place and ensure the grooves on the valve stem receive them correctly. Adjust valve pressure with the compressor tool and separator and let the spring release. Remove the compressor along with additional steps to seat the valve keys if necessary. After removing the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) put the hand started Spark Plug into the port and tighten it to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Put Spark Plug Wires back on their fitting at the ignition coil and the Spark Plug. Also check if all connections are properly seated by pressing each wire boot side-to-side before installing loose ones now. Fit the Rocker Arm into place.

The Valve Stem Oil Seal replacement job needs Spark Plug port adapter (J 23590), valve spring compressor (J 38606), and valve seal installer (J 42863) tools for Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring replacements. First remove the valve Rocker Arm plus push rod and then the Spark Plug. Turn the engine until the piston reaches top dead center to keep the valve secure above the cylinder. Fit the Spark Plug port adapter (J 23590) into the Spark Plug opening then use a compressor to hold valves locked in place. Install the valve spring compressor tool (J 38606) on the valve shrine then squeeze the valve spring. First slide off both valve keys and later remove the valve assembly by taking out the spring and its cap before the Valve Stem Oil Seal. Check the valve spring for breaking points and replace it when needed. Set the Valve Stem Oil Seal on top of the valve stem and let it rest against the valve guide during assembly. Use only light hand pressure when you put the Valve Stem Oil Seal in place with j 42863 tool to protect the part. Use j 42863 valve seal installer to push the Valve Stem Oil Seal onto its proper position over the valve guide. Hook the valve spring compressor (J 38606) back to the valve spring and reduce it to its position before putting the valve spring and cap in place. Button down the valve keys then let go of the valve spring pressure so keys settle in their designated positions. Detach the valve spring compressor j 38606 and let go of air pressure to remove the Spark Plug port adapter j 23590 from the system. Place the Spark Plug followed by the push rod and valve Rocker Arm.

In order to service and repair the Valve Stem Oil Seal and replace the Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring, one has to remove the valve Rocker Arm and the Spark Plug. Locate the j 22794 (Spark Plug Port Adapter) and insert it into the Spark Plug hole while connecting an Air Hose to it. Tap the end of the valve stem with a plastic face hammer to remove any varnish that may be on the valve stems keys and then use the j 38606 (Valve Spring Compressor) to compress the valve spring and take the valve stem keys off. Carefully free up the tension on the valve spring and then remove the j 38606, the valve spring cap, the valve spring and the Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim. Clean the cylinder head valve spring seat or the shim area before you reinstall a new Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim, making sure that it is properly aligned and positioned in order to avoid additional oil consumption and abnormally high emissions from the vehicle. Apply clean engine oil to lubricate the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal, next install the Valve Stem Oil Seal onto the valve stem by pushing it down until it touches the valve guide. Attach the valve spring to j 38606, compress it, reinstall it back to the cylinder head, with valve spring cap and valve stem keys, using grease to hold the keys. Carefully retract the valve spring pressure so that the keys seat perfectly into the groove of the valve stem and tap the end of the valve stem with a plastic faced hammer if needed. Detach and detach air supply from the j 22794 and remove it off from the Spark Plug hole. Measure the height of the valve spring installed. If it is more than 46.25mm and 1:82 in install a valve spring shim of about 0:5mm thickness and 0:02 in do not shim the valve spring to achieve less than the specified height. Finally, tighten the Spark Plug back in place, and valve rocker arms.

Start your Valve Stem Oil Seal service by taking out the valve Rocker Arm and rotating each Spark Plug wire boot half turn before just pulling up the boot to disconnect. With a warm engine place 1 or 2 turns on each Spark Plug before removing it and clean away dirt deposits with a brush or compressed air. Put the Spark Plug port adapter (J22794) into the spark hole and connect an Air Hose before blowing compressed air into the valves for support. Begin by compressing the valve spring with valve spring compressor j38606. Afterwards remove both valve stem keys and ease off the valve spring pressure when taking the compressor out. Proceed by taking off the valve spring cap, valve spring and oil seal with shim (1,5). Before assembly apply cleaning to the valve seat area, apply engine oil to valve guide and stem components, then place oil seal and shim (1,5). Install the valve spring and valve spring cap afterward. Load the valve keys with grease then position them correctly into the groove of the valve stem. Pressurize the valve spring using the valve spring compressor tool before installing the valve keys with grease. After dismantling the valve spring compressor carefully lower the valve spring pressure while keeping the valve keys in position. Use a plastic faced hammer to tap the valve stem end when the keys need seating. Finish by firstly taking off the Spark Plug port adapter (J22794) from the Spark Plug port. Then start the Spark Plug manually and fasten it with 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) torque. Connect the Spark Plug Wires to the Ignition Coil and install them properly. Verify that the wires are installed correctly and replace any loose boots before adding the valve Rocker Arm.

The job of replacing Valve Stem Oil Seal while installing both valve spring compressor (J 43649) and Valve Stem Oil Seal remover (J 36017). First you must remove the Camshaft and Camshaft roller followers before inserting the valve spring compressor (J 43649) into the cylinder head. Filter compressed air through the Spark Plug opening until the cylinder reaches 690 kpa (100 psi). Use the pressure tool to press down the valve spring before taking off its retainers and spring. You should utilize the Valve Stem Oil Seal remover tool j 36017 to uninstall the valve seal. After sealing the valve with the specified tool (J 36017) you can set the new valve spring into position. Reinsert the valve spring while holding its compression and add both valve spring keepers. First put back the spark plugs, then Camshaft followers, and lastly the Camshaft after detaching both the valve spring compressor and air hose adaptor from its Spark Plug hole position.

For valve guide seal service and replacement of valve guide seal and valve spring you need to work with Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) valve spring compressor (J 38606). You need to take out the valve Rocker Arm and unplug the spark wire at the Spark Plug. Turn each boot 1/2 rotation and pull only on the boot to remove it. Affix the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) to each cylinder at room temperature and apply gentle turning force on spark plugs to loosen them one or two revolutions. Then use compressed air or a brush to clear debris before unscrewing the plugs. Fit the Spark Plug port adapter j 22794 into Spark Plug opening and connect air hose to valve retention system. Press compressed air into Spark Plug hole to stabilize valves. Compress the valve spring using the valve spring compressor device j 38606 before removing the valve stem keys while taking care to release tension before removing the compressor completely. Now you should take out the valve spring top, valve spring, and valve guide seal with its shim. Apply oil to valve guide and valve guide seal before installing them with the valve spring in the Cylinder Head. Use the valve spring compressor (J 38606) to compress the valve spring while placing valve keys on top and then insert the valve spring and valve spring cap. After releasing valve spring pressure carefully pull out the compressor unit while using a plastic faced hammer to tap the valve stem end if the keys require seating. Reverse the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) and start the Spark Plug manually before tightening it to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Install the Spark Plug Wires at the Ignition Coil and onto the Spark Plug following a final check of installation quality before putting back the valve Rocker Arm.

When you need to fix the Valve Stem Oil Seal and both Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring you should first acquire Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) and valve spring compressor (J 38606). Seal the valve service procedure with a Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) and pull the Spark Plug wire boot 1/2 turn while locking its connection with the Spark Plug. At normal temperature detach spark plugs from the Cylinder Head with a moderate rotation while removing any dirt from the engine spaces before taking out the spark plugs. Insert the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) into the Spark Plug hole and link an air hose. Use compressed air to position the valves before starting engine work. Apply the valve spring compressor (J 38606) to press down the valve spring then detach the valve stem keys (225). Slowly reduce valve spring force with the tool before taking it off. Then pull out the valve spring cap (224) and then the valve spring (223). After that take off the Valve Stem Oil Seal and its accompanying shim (222). Clean all valve spring parts in the Cylinder Head spaces then set the Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim piece 222 alongside the valve spring 223 and valve spring cap 224. Put valve keys in position with grease and use the valve spring compressor (J 38606) to force down valve spring until keys find their natural seats inside the valve stem groove. Use the valve spring compressor to pressurize the spring until valve keys remain secure before removing both tools. Use a plastic-headed hammer to set the keys correctly if the end of the valve stem does not seat properly. To finish the process start the Spark Plug by hand then tighten it to 15 nm while verifying all Spark Plug wire installations prior replacing the valve Rocker Arm.

The necessary tools include a Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) and valve spring compressor (J 38606) to service and repair the Valve Stem Oil Seal and replace the Valve Stem Oil Seal as well as valve spring. First disconnect the Rocker Arm and take off the Spark Plug wire by twisting its boot one-half turn and gently pulling the wire away from the Spark Plug. Maintain engine room temperature when detaching spark plugs because loosening them slightly before blowing away dust with an air tool ensures effective cleaning. Fit the Spark Plug port adapter j 22794 into the Spark Plug hole as you apply compressed air through an air hose and connect it to the adapter to keep the valves secure in place. You can compress the valve spring using the valve spring compressor j 38606 before taking out valve stem keys. Then let the valve spring tension go gradually before taking off the compressor. To continue the process take off the valve spring cap then the valve spring and Valve Stem Oil Seal plus shim. Apply clean engine oil to the valve guide and seal before placing the Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim. Insert the valve spring into position while placing valve spring cap on top. Depress the valve spring using valve spring compressor (J 38606) before installing valve keys which need grease for support while checking their correct position between valve stem grooves. Slowly open the valve spring pressure when the keys hold position then disconnect the compressor while giving soft hammer taps to secure the valve stem keys. Insert the Spark Plug into its port manually before this component (J 22794) and tighten to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) torque. After placing the Spark Plug wires from ignition coil to Spark Plug check each wire connection by pushing side-to-side around the boot ends. Reinstall loosely fastened boots after this last step when you reinstall the Rocker Arm.

The valve guide seal repair work demands Spark Plug port adapter (J22794) and valve spring compressor (J38606) along with the required valvespring and the Valve Stem Oil Seal to be replaced. First remove the Rocker Arm then disconnect the Spark Plug wire by twisting its boot 1/2 turn and gently pulling from the boot end. At room temperature unfasten each Spark Plug 1 or 2 turns from its Cylinder Head position before using brush or air clearance to cleanse the plug area. Install the Spark Plug port adapter j22794 into the Spark Plug opening then connect air hose tubes and use compressed air to hold the engine valves in position. Squeeze the valve spring with the valve spring compressor (J38606) product. Pull off both valve stem keys while controlling the valve spring tension then remove the compressor. Then take off the valve spring cap, valve spring and valve guide seal and shim (1, 5). Clean the area where the valve spring and shim attach and apply oil to the valve guide and valve guide seal before you put in the valve guide seal and shim (1, 5). After that, set the valve spring and valve spring cap into place. Put the valve keys with grease into the valve stem grooves and run the valve spring compressor (J38606) to compress the valve spring before installing each piece. Slowly open valve spring pressure while both valve keys should maintain their position before removing the compressor. And when necessary tap the end of the valve stem to help key seating. Extract the Spark Plug port adapter (J22794) out from the Spark Plug port. Begin the Spark Plug manually and fix it tightly at 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Put the Spark Plug Wires onto their designated connections at the Ignition Coil and Spark Plug. Secure any loose boot parts by pressing on each bracket end and reattaching them properly before adding the Rocker Arm.

To do the valve guide sealing work and change the valve guide seal along with valve spring the technician needs three tools: valve spring compressor part j 5892-d, spark plug port adapter part j 22794, and valve seal installer tool j 43105. Start by taking out the valve rocker arms together with pushrods before making sure the Piston inside the serviced cylinder remains at its lowest point to stop engine movement during air pressure application. Adjust the Crankshaft position until sealing both valves before extracting the Spark Plug from the cylinder chamber. Fit the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) into the Spark Plug hole and block the valves using a compressed air source. Use the socked valve spring compressor j 5892-d tool to set up the valves and turn the valve Rocker Arm bolt to fix it in place. Push the valve spring into place through the valve spring compressor (J 5892-D) tool then take out the valve stem keys so the compressed cylinder air stays in place. Take out the cylinder head valve spring compressor unit j 5892-d from the cylinder head then detach the valve spring cap, valve spring, and valve guide seal in that order. Use clean engine oil to lubricate the valve stem and valve guide seal. Apply engine oil onto the rotators as well. To properly place the valve guide seal, insert the valve seal installer j 43105 and push the valve tip into the valve guide until the seal is fully seated. Insert the valve spring small end first, then put on the valve spring cap. Insert the valve springs' small ends up and squeeze the assembly with the valve spring compressor (J 5892-D). Install the valve stem keys after applying small amounts of clean grease and secure them with new valve retainers (J 66029). Remove the valve spring compressor tool (J 5892-D) from the valve section by carefully lifting it while you take off compressed air from the cylinder. Reinsert the Spark Plug afterward you reattach both the valve rocker arms and pushrods.

In order to do the Valve Stem Oil Seal service, replace the Valve Stem Oil Seal, and adjust the valve spring, you will need the listed tools: j 22794 Spark Plug port adapter and j 38606 valve spring compressor. First, take off the Rocker Arm and disconnect the Spark Plug wire from the Spark Plug, twisting the boot and pulling only on the boot. With the valve spring compressor (J 38606), squeeze the valve spring, but before removing the compressor, take the valve stem keys apart and let go of the compressed spring very carefully. You should then remove the valve spring cap, the valve spring, and the Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim. Make the area around the Cylinder Head valve spring seat or shim clean, add clean engine oil to the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal, then install the Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim into place. Mount the valve spring and valve spring cap, compress the spring with the help of the valve spring compressor (J 38606), and push the valve stem keys onto the stem, covering them with grease and checking that they sit securely in the stem groove. Ease off the valve spring pressure, then take away the compressor, and if the keys need it, tap the valve stem with a tool having a plastic face. Take away the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) from where it is on the Spark Plug port, screw in the Spark Plug by hand, and tighten secure the Spark Plug Wires to the Ignition Coil and to the Spark Plug, making sure they are attached correctly and putting back any loose boot before putting on the Rocker Arm.

You need to remove the Rocker Arm before working on the Valve Stem Oil Seal repair and replacing Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring. To disconnect the Spark Plug wire gently twist each boot about 1.5 times and simply pull on the boot at its base. At room temperature take off spark plugs from engine head by turning them 1 or 2 times then clean each Spark Plug port before full removal. Put the j 22794 (Spark Plug Port Adapter) in the Spark Plug opening and connect air tubing followed by pushing compressed air against the valves to keep them steady. Lower the valve spring pressure using the j 38606 before taking out the valve stem keys (225) and gently decompressing the valve spring using the tool. Take out the valve spring cap 224, valve spring 223, Valve Stem Oil Seal 222, and the valve 228. Clean the valve seat area with oil and lubricate both the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal with fresh engine oil. Insert valves (228) in their specific slots then put together Valve Stem Oil Seal (222), valve spring (223), and valve spring cap (224). Apply spring pressure through the j 38606 tool before setting the valve keys in their valve stem grooves with grease. Lower the spring pressure gently while holding the keys in position. Strike the valve stem end lightly with a plastic faced hammer if the keys need further seating work after you take off the j 38606. Fit the j 22794 into the Spark Plug port before kicking the engine to start and torquing the plug to 15 nm (11 lb ft). Check the Spark Plug wire installation into both the Ignition Coil and plug. Check all wires by applying side pressure to boot covers and fixing loose ones when found. Finally, install the Rocker Arm.

Ensure the correct seals are used: intake - black seal and exhaust - brown seal.

Install the spark plugs, rocker arms, and camshafts, and remove the EN 46106 before reinstalling the starter motor.

Install the Camshaft Sprocket Holding Tool (J 44222) onto the cylinder head.

The EN 46110 On-Vehicle Valve Spring Compressor.

EN-47823 (Valve Spring Compressor Adapter), J 22794 (Spark Plug Port Adapter), and J 5892-D (Valve Spring Compressor).

Carefully compress the valve spring using the Valve Spring Compressor (J 5892-D) and the Valve Spring Compressor Adapter (EN-47823).

Remove the camshafts and rocker arms, followed by the spark plug from the applicable cylinder.

It is crucial to prevent crankshaft rotation, as failure to do so may necessitate disassembly and reassembly of the entire camshaft timing system.

Use the (J 38606) to compress the valve spring.

Use the EN 46116 to install the new valve stem seal, followed by the valve spring and valve spring retainer.

Remove the Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794), hand start the spark plug, and tighten it to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.), install the spark plug wires at the ignition coil and to the spark plug, inspect the wires for proper installation, and reinstall any loose boot before installing the rocker arm.

The valve stem keys (225), valve spring tension, valve spring cap (224), valve spring (223), valve stem oil seal (222), and the valve (228).

Carefully release the valve spring pressure, remove the compressor, and tap the end of the valve stem with a plastic faced hammer to seat the keys if necessary.

Remove the valve keepers, loosen the nut, and take out the valve spring retainer and spring.

Spark Plug Port Adapter (J22794), Valve Spring Compressor (Head-on) (J38606), and Valve Stem Oil Seal Installer (J42078).

Install the oil seal onto the valve stem and use the installer to push it down until it contacts the valve guide.

Lubricate the valve guide and valve stem oil seal with clean engine oil.

Remove the valve stem keys, then carefully release the valve spring tension and remove the J 38606, followed by the valve spring cap, valve spring, and valve stem oil seal with shim.

Relieve the air pressure, remove the J 39313 from the spark plug hole, take off the base plate of the J-44228-A, reinstall the spark plugs and camshafts, raise and support the vehicle again, remove the EN 46547 from the flywheel teeth, and install the service slot plug before lowering the vehicle.

Twist each boot 1/2 turn and pull only on the boot.

Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794) and Valve Spring Compressor (J 38606).

Remove a bolt from a valve rocker arm, install a flat washer on the bolt, and then install the bolt in the valve rocker arm bolt hole for the valve spring requiring removal.

Ensure the keys seat properly in the groove of the valve stem.

Carefully release the valve spring pressure, remove the compressor, and tap the end of the valve stem with a plastic faced hammer if necessary to seat the keys.

Lubricate the valve stem with clean engine oil.

Use the black seal for intake and the brown seal for exhaust.

Loosen the spark plug and clean the spark plug recess area.

Push sideways on each boot to ensure proper installation.

Take off the Valve Spring Compressor (J 43649) from the cylinder head.

EN-47823 (Valve Spring Compressor Adapter), J 22794 (Spark Plug Port Adapter), and J 5892-D (Valve Spring Compressor).

For manual transmissions, leave it in first gear with the parking brake set. For automatic transmissions, remove the starter.

Spark Plug Port Adapter (J22794) and Valve Spring Compressor (J38606).

Exercise caution as compressed valve springs can be dangerous.

Begin by removing the necessary valve rocker arms and spark plugs.

Install the Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794) in the spark plug hole and attach an air hose to it, applying compressed air into the cylinder.

Select the appropriate valve stem oil seal, lubricate it and the valve guide, and install it onto the valve guide using the Valve Stem Oil Seal Installer (J 42073), ensuring a 1-2 mm gap between the seal and the valve guide.

Check that the valve stem keys are properly seated in the valve spring cap, tap the valve stem if necessary, remove the Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794), and reinstall the spark plugs and valve rocker arms.

Remove the valve rocker arm and disconnect the spark plug wire at the spark plug.

Use the Valve Spring Compressor (J 38606) to compress the valve spring.

Remove the J 22794 from the spark plug port, hand start the spark plug, and tighten it to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).

Use the Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794) to install into the spark plug hole, then apply compressed air.

Install them after lubrication.

Lubricate the valve guide and valve stem oil seal with clean engine oil.

To hold the valves in place by applying compressed air.

Release the air pressure, remove the Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794) from the spark plug port, and then reinstall the rocker arm and spark plug.

Remove the compressed air and take out the J 22794 from the spark plug port, then reinstall the rocker arm and the spark plug.

Raise and support the vehicle.

Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794), Valve Spring Compressor (J 38606), and Valve Stem Oil Seal Installer (J 42078).

Install the camshaft caps onto their original journals, tightening the cap bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb in).

Install the valve spring and the valve spring cap, then compress the valve spring using (J 38606) and install the valve keys.

Carefully release the valve spring pressure, ensuring the valve keys remain in place, then remove the compressor and tap the end of the valve stem with a plastic faced hammer to seat the keys if necessary.

Remove the valve keys, carefully release the valve spring tension, and then remove the compressor.

Install the valve stem O-ring seal and valve stem keys, using grease to hold them in place, and carefully release the spring pressure, ensuring the keys remain seated.

Remove the Spark Plug Port Adapter (J22794) from the spark plug port, hand start the spark plug, tighten it to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.), then install the spark plug wires at the ignition coil and to the spark plug, inspecting for proper installation before reinstalling the valve rocker arm.

Remove the J 44226-3A from the torque converter bolt, install the torque converter access plug, and lower the vehicle.

Finally, install the spark plug wires at the ignition coil and to the spark plug, inspecting the wires for proper installation before reinstalling the valve rocker arm.

Use the Valve Spring Compressor (J38606) to compress the valve spring, then remove the valve stem keys and carefully release the valve spring tension before removing the compressor.

Remove the valve keys, carefully release the valve spring tension, and then remove the compressors.

Install the Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794) into the spark plug hole, attach an air hose, and apply compressed air to hold the valves in place.
