• Q: How to service and repair the valve guide seal, replace the valve stem oil seal, and valve spring on 2008 Chevrolet Express 2500?

  A: First detach the valve Rocker Arm before you start repairing the components of the Valve Stem Oil Seal. Twist the Spark Plug boot 1/2 turn and disconnect it by just pulling on the boot tightly. Warm engine exhaust will make it easier to take out spark plugs when you turn them 1 to 2 turns and wipe away any grit around them. Install j 22794 into the Spark Plug hole and attach air hose before blowing compressed air through the valves for support. Use (J 38606) to pressurize the valve spring before taking out the valve stem keys. Release the spring tension slowly to extract (J 38606), valve spring cap, and valve spring. Clean the valve spring setting area of the Cylinder Head with its shims present. Add clean engine oil to both the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal. Afterward, mount the Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim assembly. Then put the valve spring back in place and control it with (J 38606) before placing the valve keys in position while keeping them in place using grease. Use (J 38606) to compress the valve spring then remove it. Strike the valve stem lightly with a plastic mallet if required to secure the keys properly. Insert (J 22794) into the Spark Plug port then begin the Spark Plug by hand before fastening it to 15 n.m (11 lbft). Secure the Spark Plug wires exactly as they belong between the Ignition Coil and the Spark Plug. Make sure all wire connections fit firmly by pushing each boot sideways then reinstalling loose ones. Complete the operation by placing the valve Rocker Arm in its correct position.
