Valve Seals

Start by detaching the valve Rocker Arm cover then taking out the associated valve rocker arms and spark plugs to access the Valve Stem Oil Seal. Install j 22794 Spark Plug port adapter into the Spark Plug hole and attach shop air hose. Afterwards pump compressed air into it to keep valves in position. Set up the valve spring removal tool by first setting aside its bolt and then sliding a flat washer over the bolt before inserting it into the valve Rocker Arm bolt hole that needs servicing. When using the valve spring compressor handle the compression with extreme caution since it generates strong valve spring tension that can lead to injuries. Apply pressure to the j 5892-d valve spring compressor through its slotted end by positioning it under the washer of the valve Rocker Arm bolt until you can access the valve keys. Keep the j 38606 valve spring compressor blades locked tight on the valve spring to stop movement and valve damage. Work the metal spring compression tool j 5892-d or j 38606 by taking off the valve keys first. Undo the valve spring cap and valve spring. Take out the Valve Stem Oil Seal afterwards. To set up the new valve parts, put the seals, valve spring, and cap on the valve stem and use j 5892-d to push down the valve spring when the j 38606 is not available. As a replacement for the j 5892-d tool use the j 38606 tool if clearance is impossible. Put grease into the valve stem keys before decompressing the valve spring gently to make sure the keys stay in position. Test if the valve keys are correctly placed before you take off the j 5892-d or j 38606 tool. Complete the sequence by installing the bolt j 22794 then transfer the spark plugs before setting the valve rocker arms above their cover.

Before accessing the valve guide seal and valve spring you must remove the valve Rocker Arm cover as well as all pertinent valve rocker arms and spark plugs. The j 22794 (Spark Plug Port Adapter) enters the Spark Plug hole and locks valves in position. You need to join air supply equipment hoses. A pressurized air stream keeps the valves steady during service. After disconnecting the valve keys press the j 5892-d or j 38606 into the valve spring tension to compress it then take both tools out. Turn off the valve spring and take off its cap before handling the valve guide seal. Install the correct engine oil seal onto the valve stem while holding it against the valve spring seat with the j 42073 until it reaches the 1-2mm mark below the valve guide. Insert both valve spring components before compressing the spring again through its installation tools. Position the valve guide o-ring seal and keys into place with grease then gently let the valve spring pressure escape to completion. Using a soft-face hammer strike the valve stem end lightly to position the valve stem keys on their seats inside the spring cap. Replace the j 22794. Then reinstall the spark plugs and valve Rocker Arm set followed by the valve Rocker Arm cover.

Begin Valve Stem Oil Seal service by taking off valve rocker arm covers then spark plugs while wearing safety glasses. Install the Spark Plug port adapter j 22794 on top of the Spark Plug hole then apply compressed air through this adapter to clamp the valves in position. Mount the valve base nut first and use the valve spring compressor (J 5892-D) to compress the valve spring. If clearance problems appear, use the substitute valve spring compressor (J 38606) instead. Lower the valve spring compressor from the stem using keys and then relax tension before removing the j 5892-d or j 38606. Next pull the valve spring cap and valve spring out followed by the Valve Stem Oil Seal. Choose the correct Valve Stem Oil Seal according to valve guide requirements then place the valve spring on top of it. Finally, seat the valve spring cap. Squeeze the valve spring back with the j 5892-d compressor tool or j 38606 when needed before inserting the valve stem keys and holding them with grease. After loosening valve spring pressure keep the valve stem keys aligned as you take out j 5892-d or j 38606 then put in the spark plugs and valve rocker arm covers.

Start your work by disconnecting the battery negative cable before you begin to service all parts of the valve system. Before adding compressed air into the service cylinder, take off the valve Rocker Arm cover from the Cylinder Head and turn the Crankshaft with both valves shut. Keep the cylinder in bottom position before starting valve service to stop engine rotation. Separate the valve Rocker Arm system from the Cylinder Head then uninstall push rod spark plugs. Put the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) in the Spark Plug port then blow compressed air through the cylinder to shut valves before gently hitting the valve spring retainer to free the keepers. After installing the valve spring compressor (J 5892-C) onto the Cylinder Head connect the valve Rocker Arm bolt to secure it during spring compression. With the compressor pressurized the valve spring assembly becomes compressed so valve keepers can be pulled off without releasing the air. Relax the compressed spring pressure afterward take out the compressor unit then the valve spring retainer and spring from engine head finally extract the valve stem seal from its valve guide. After positioning the new valve stem oil seal on the valve guide put in the valve spring retainer then the spring. The valve spring compressor tool j 5892-c helps place valve springs and keepers. During installation always apply compressed air and grease to retain the keepers securely. Once finished use the compressor to release the tension then take off the equipment and escape the compressed air. Reconnect the battery before putting back all components including spark plugs and valve rocker assembly pieces.

Start with taking off the valve Rocker Arm cover then dislodging the required valve rocker arms and spark plugs before servicing the Valve Stem Oil Seal. Push the Spark Plug port adapter (part J 22794) into the Spark Plug opening and connect a shop air supply hose. The valve positions remain stable when you deliver compressed air through the supply hose. Install a valve spring bolt into its respective valve Rocker Arm hole after adding a smooth washer onto the bolt for the valve spring that needs to be removed. Treat the process with care since valve springs under pressure exert strong force. Twist the valve spring compressor j 5892-d onto the washer under the valve Rocker Arm bolt while keeping steady pressure until you reach the valve keys. When full valve spring tension is not achievable through the j 38606 tool set it to the j 5892-d instead. Free the valve spring tension and take off the spring cap after releasing the valve keys using the relevant tool. Place the valve in its right location and put the correct Valve Stem Oil Seal into the valve guide. Apply clean engine oil to the valve guide and seal before using the valve stem seal installer (J 42073) to install the seal on the valve guide. Keep the bottom edge of the Valve Stem Oil Seal around 1 - 2 millimeters away from the valve guide surface. Place the valve spring and cap into position after compressing it with j 5892-d or j 38606 as needed. Put the valve stem o-rings and valves keys on using grease to set them correctly before carefully taking the valve spring pressure off. Eliminate the j 5892-d or j 38606 then inspect the valve stem keys to ensure proper alignment before performing a gentle tap with a plastic hammer's end. Afterwards disconnect the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) and reinstall all pieces in the valve assembly.

A complete set of tools needed for valve service repair includes Spark Plug port adapter j 22794, valve spring compressors j 38606 and j 5892-d and valve guide seal installer j 42073. Enter the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) into the Spark Plug hole first and connect the air hose to apply compressed air before starting the job. Fasten a flat washer then put bolt and Rocker Arm onto the removed parts for the valve spring to be taken out. Take safety measures when working with compressed valve springs because their high tension presents danger to you. Set the valve spring compressor's (J 5892-D) slotted end under the washer on the Rocker Arm bolt. Apply slow and continuous pressure until access to valve keys is possible. First remove the valve spring cap and valve spring pieces then take off the valve guide seal from its location. Apply clean engine oil to both valve stem and guide before selecting the right seal. Press it onto the valve stem. Put the valve guide seal installer (J 42073) on to position the seal on the valve guide leaving a space of 1 - 2 mm. Reinstall the valve spring components after you compress the valve spring with the valve spring compressor j 5892-d or j 38606 when needed. Press the valve stem keys firmly against the valve stem using grease support and let spring pressure ease down while keeping the keys in place. Examine if the valve stem keys now sit flat inside the spring cap and tap the stem when needed before taking out the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794). Reinstall the spark plugs and valve rocker arms last.

You need to start your work by removing the valve Rocker Arm covers from left and right sides while also taking out the valve rocker arms and spark plugs. Slot the j 22794 (Spark Plug Port Adapter) into the Spark Plug opening and link a shop air hose. Use compressed air to prevent valve movement during service. Position a flat washer on a valve Rocker Arm bolt before inserting it into the bolt hole of the valve spring to be removed. Reinstate the valve spring and valve spring cap before compressing the valve spring using the j 5892-d or j 38606 if necessary. Apply grease to the valve stem keys and place them in their positions before lowering the spring pressure to achieve the right fit. Complete the process by taking out the j 5892-d or j 38606 devices while verifying the proper position of valve stem keys before using the tool to tap the valve stem when needed.

Before replacing the valve stem oil seal and valve spring, take out the valve rocker arms from the Cylinder Head and the spark plugs. Slide the (J22794) into the Spark Plug hole, then use compressed air to keep the valves secured. Attach an m8 bolt (J5892-D) to the valve Rocker Arm using a washer, then use (J38606) to add more compression to the valve spring. First take out the (J21058) valve stem keys, then release the spring pressure from the valve and in the end, take the (J62681) compressor, (J38606) valve spring cap, (J28861) valve spring and (J50572) valve stem oil seal off. Take the valve spring shim out if the manual tells you to. Before anything else, put the valve spring shim in place if you have one and when assembling the valve stem oil seal onto the guide, make certain they are aligned to reduce both oil use and harm to the parts. Apply clean engine oil to the valve guide and oil seal and fit the seal over the valve stem down into position. Apply pressure on the object (J42073) to fit the oil seal into position against the valve spring shim or spring seat. After that, place the valve spring and the valve spring cap, snugly compress the valve spring using tool j5892-d or j38606 and fit the valve keys using a thin layer of grease. With the valve pressure released, see that the keys stay in place and remove (J5892-D) and (J22794) carefully. You should install the spark plugs and valve rocker arms in the final step.

Unplug the valve keys while extending the valve spring tension and take out the j 5892-d or j 38606 before the valve spring cap and spring. The installation process starts with setting the valve seals on the valve stem and placing the new valve spring beneath it before adding the valve spring cap at the top. Use the j 5892-d device to push down the valve spring until the j 38606 lock threads are activated. Place valve stem keys onto their seat using grease and carefully let spring pressure out while maintaining proper key position to protect engine components. Examine if the j 5892-d or j 38606 keys became loose then press the valve stem end gently with a plastic-faced hammer when needed. Replace the valve Rocker Arm cover along with the spark plugs and valve rocker arms after taking off the j 22794 component.

Reinstall the spark plugs and valve rocker arms last.

To service and repair the Valve Stem Oil Seal loosen and remove the valve Rocker Arm by disconnecting the Spark Plug wire from the Spark Plug by twisting each plug wire boot 1/2 turn and pulling only the boot. Dip your fingers into the engine oil and tighten the oil filter nut. Pull the oil filter assembly off, then drain the oil from the engine into a suitable seal container. Drain all of the oil from the engine until the oil you pull out runs close to clean, then pour in more oil, close the drain plug, and turn the engine over by hand for several minutes to replace all of the intermediate lubrication. Now immediately pull off the drain plug under the pan and drain the last of the oil. Mount the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) to the hole of the Spark Plug, connect an Air Hose, and apply compressed air to keep the engines' valves in place. Mention the use of valve spring compressor (J 38606) to compress the valve spring then remove the valve stem keys, releasing the valve spring's tension carefully and then remove the compressor. Then, take out the valve spring cap and the valve spring, as well as the Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim. For installation, clean the Cylinder Head valve spring seat/shim area and lubricate the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal with clean engine oil, install Valve Stem Oil Seal, and shim. Put on the valve spring and install the valve spring cap while compressing the valve spring using a compressor and installing the valve keys, greased to keep them in place, carefully releasing the pressure on the valve spring to ensure that the keys are seated. Uninstall the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) and hand-start the Spark Plug (to 15 Nm (11 ft. Lbs.)). Finally, connect the Spark Plug Wires to the Ignition Coil and to the Spark Plug, as well as check the wires for the proper installation before reinstalling the valve Rocker Arm.

Press the valve spring back into position through the j 5892-d or j 38606 tool when necessary. Insert valve stem keys keeping them in place with grease before you let the valve spring pressure escape. To finish the process install the spark plugs and valve rocker arm covers after removing the j 5892-d or j 38606.

Start the Valve Stem Oil Seal work by removing the valve Rocker Arm cover and then taking out the needed valve rocker arms along with the spark plugs. Affix the j 22794 adapter into the Spark Plug opening and link a compressed air hose to start the valve retention function. Place a flat washer onto the bolt before returning the bolt into the valve Rocker Arm bolt hole to access the valve spring that needs removal. Take precautions since valve springs under compression have strong pushing power. Fit the j 5892-d valve spring compressor base into position under the washer on top of the valve Rocker Arm bolt. Slowly apply pressure on the valve spring until the valve keys become visible. When needed apply the j 38606 valve spring compressor tool for valve engagement. After dropping valve keys and controlling valve spring tension you should take off the j 5892-d or j 38606 then remove both valve spring cap and spring. Before assembly set the proper valve guide seal, lubricate both parts and put the seal onto the valve stem. Secure the valve guide seal onto the valve guide using the j 42073 tool with a seal gap of 1 to 2 millimeters between both components. After adding the valve spring and valve spring cap parts put the j 5892-d or j 38606 tool back to compress the valve spring when necessary. Apply grease between valve stem keys as you insert both parts into their positions. Lower the valve spring pressure slowly while making sure the valve keys enter the spring cap properly to prevent motor harm. Put back the spark plugs along with valve rocker arms and valve Rocker Arm cover after removing tool j 22794.

Manufacturing requires a Spark Plug port adapter (J22794) and valve spring compressor (J38606) to service and repair the Valve Stem Oil Seal including new Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring installation. Remove the Rocker Arm first and disconnect the Spark Plug wire at the Spark Plug with one 1/2 turn on each boot section and a gentle pull. When the engine temperature is at room level you should turn spark plugs one or two turns for brushing or cleaning with compressed air. Position the Spark Plug port adapter j22794 into the Spark Plug hole and connect it to the air hose. Then pass quality compressed air through the adapter to secure the valves. When using valve spring compressor j38606 press down the valve spring and then take out the valve stem keys. Lower the valve spring tension slowly while removing the compressor device. Unbutton the valve spring cap then remove the valve spring plus oil seal and shim set (valve spring, 1, 5). Add clean engine oil to the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal before pressing in the Valve Stem Oil Seal and shim parts (1, 5) with the valve spring and valve spring cap. Feed the valve spring through the valve spring compressor j38606 and slowly release pressure until the valve keys fit into place with valve spring oil to stabilize them in the valve stem groove. Use a valve spring compressor to push the valve pressure off but keep the valve keys in place. Afterward check if the keys require seating by tapping gently with a plastic face hammer. Remove the j22794 adapter and turn the Spark Plug by hand before tightening it to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Examine and align Spark Plug wires to both the ignition coil and Spark Plug ends while pushing each boot unit to test if it fits properly before replacing missing boots. Finally, install the Rocker Arm.

Remove the valve keys, carefully release the valve spring tension, and then remove the J 5892-D or J 38606.

Remove a bolt from a valve rocker arm, install a flat washer on the bolt, and then install the bolt in the valve rocker arm bolt hole for the valve spring requiring removal.

Install the Spark Plug Port Adapter (J22794) into the spark plug hole, attach an air hose to it, and apply compressed air to hold the valves in place.

The required tools are Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794), Valve Spring Compressor (J 38606), Valve Spring Compressor (J 5892-D), and Valve Stem Oil Seal Installer (J 42073).

Ensure the keys remain seated correctly in the valve spring cap to prevent engine damage.

Install the valve stem O-ring seal and valve stem keys, using grease to hold the keys in place.

Install the Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794) into the spark plug hole, connect a shop air supply hose, and apply compressed air.

Carefully release the valve spring pressure, remove the compressor, and tap the end of the valve stem with a plastic faced hammer to seat the keys if necessary.

Install the Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794) into the spark plug hole and connect a shop air supply hose to apply compressed air.

Remove the J22794, reinstall the spark plugs, valve rocker arms, and the valve rocker arm cover.

Remove the J 22794 from the spark plug port, hand start the spark plug, and tighten it to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
