2006 Buick Terraza Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How should one safely drain oil from gas charged shock absorbers on 2006 Buick Terraza?
A: A person should never remove the snap ring from the top of the gas charged shock absorber tube as this could cause a dangerous gas pressure release which may result in injury. Safety glasses need to be worn during the centerpunching and drilling process and shock absorber tube punctures must be avoided to prevent injury. Apply the centerpunch at a 10mm (0.4 inch) indentation position on the tube base. Drill two holes into a horizontally-clamped shock absorber rod which extends fully from the vise. You should drill at the centerpunched area using a 5 mm (3/16 inch) drill bit to exhaust either gas alone or a combination of gas and oil; contain the leaking oil with shop towels. The middle section of the tube requires another centerpunch mark for a 5 mm (3/16 inch) hole drilling operation. Use shop towels to collect the escaping oil during this step. Put the drain pan underneath the shock absorber while positioning it horizontally with face-down holes and run the rod through the tube to drain all oil.
