  A: The replacement process of shift cables within the column requires first setting the park brake while chocking wheels into position. Remove the retainer completely from the transaxle shift cable mechanism before detaching the terminal that connects the transaxle manual shift lever pin to the shift cable. You should press the locking tabs inside to release the shift cable from its bracket before taking out the left closeout/insulator panel. Remove the retainer from the transaxle shift cable mechanism while disconnecting its terminal from the shift lever pin. Use your hand to push the locking tabs while you pull the shift cable from the bracket. After that unfasten the shift cable grommet at the cowl panel to extract the shift cable from the vehicle.
