How to replace the rear trunk latch on 2006 Cadillac XLR?

Open the rear compartment then pull the middle carpet backward. Pull off the electrical connector and manual release cable from the latch installation area. Mark the position of the old latch before taking it out for later placement. Disconnect the nuts that fix the latch to its rear compartment base before taking it out. The latch goes onto the rear compartment panel with attention to Service Precautions Fastener Notice. Tighten the nuts fastening the latch onto the panel until they reach a torque of 10 N.m (89 lb in). Fit the manual release cable back to the latch and electrical connector before installing the rear fascia. Return the rear compartment carpet to its original place before you finish up.
