2006 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to overhaul the front brake calipers on 2006 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: Start by removing the whole caliper assembly then disconnect the caliper guide pin between the Piston housing and retaining frame. Next take out the bleeder valve protector and the bleeder valve itself. Pull out the pins along with the rubber boots and take off both the brakes pad and pad springs from inside the caliper. Always use safety glasses when operating compressed air to shield your eyes from damage. Also keep your fingers behind the caliper pistons when using compressed air as the Piston(s) travel with strong force and could harm you; insert a wood block inside the caliper housing to prevent the Piston from ejecting. Push the Piston out with compressed air from the housing before taking off its inner and outer seals from their places in the caliper Piston bore. Warm all components in brake fluid or denatured alcohol before cleaning them with dry non-oiled compressed air. Use air to clear passages inside the housing and the bleeder valve. Check the Piston and caliper components for damage then replace anything that shows signs of condition problems. Also test and maintain the caliper bleeder valve performance. Do not use hand tools or other equipment to change Piston dimensions in the caliper or Piston area. Insert the new Piston inner seal into the caliper housing groove and make sure the twist is eliminated before placing the outer Piston dust seal in its designated groove. Push the Piston into the bore after greasing it with brake fluid and check that the dust seal fits properly into its groove. Apply rubber grease to pins and add the boots before putting the dust cap and bleeder valve into place. Secure the bleeder valve at 6 nm (53 inch lbs.). Position the brake pads and pad springs correctly before putting on the retaining frame to the caliper housing with guide pin bolts. Clamp all bolts to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Finally, install the caliper assembly.
